Sneak Peek Swift Weather Pro

It's where we refer to as "The Hump" on the west side of the state. Or something.

As for the apps, to each their own. I started with Swift and moved later to GRL3. Swift is great for novices or people who don't want to set and maintain things themselves. I think Swift also performs much better on a robust home net connection than it does on the road with mobile. I wouldn't be surprised if a vast majority of the subscriptions come from people who have nothing to do with storm chasing or interest in it.

I will say if Swift offered a reasonable purchase price and not a subscription model, that I probably would have purchased it at some point in the past.

Eric, Where is 'Cornholio MN'?
LOL, I’m not too far from the Corn Capital of the World. Somebody posted something a few years ago about being stuck in Cornholio Nebraska.

Back OT, personally I use GRLevelX along with SN, though I’ve used some earlier versions of Swift. It’ll be interesting to see what the new version is all about.

Saw a video that shows a sneak peak of the new software, from what I can see it looks nothing like the current GUI and actually looks a lot better so I may give it a try when the new version is released.

The one thing SwiftWX has over GRLevel3 is the ability to view national composite, I hate the fact that Mike won't add that into GRLevel3 for whatever reason. It can be done, he's done it before and had the composite posted on his site and other programs do it so I don't see why GRLevel3 can't have national composite

Good point about GR3; I know there is a lot that GR3 can add. And they should; the needs of the chasing community as well as pro Mets have the need for it to get improvements. Maybe SW Pro is taking up the slack - or so it appears.

BTW-where is the page that shows the GUI video preview - as I cannot find it..

I'm not sure about that. I think GR3 has about everything a chaser wants, plus a whole lot more. If you ever go to the forum and read it, some of the requests for additional functions is pretty ridiculous. I think people forget that this is radar software. It wouldn't surprise me if someone requested a genie to pop out of the program and grant them 3 wishes.

By the way Rob, what are a lot of things that Mike could add to the software?

Remember, there will be a new version (not update) of grlevel3 sometime in the next few months. I think that's why there hasn't been any updates on the current version in a while. We'll see what the new version entails.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not dissing GR3 at all. I have and use a licensed copy myself! What I am saying is that SW may have a GUI that incorporates more possibilities than GR is capable of doing presently.

The video 'sneak release' although cleaver is only a teaser - really. I think that I will continue to use GR3. But SW has a lot yet to prove that they have a tiger by the tail, and unless I see level 3 attributes such as velocities and other really useful items - then I am still skeptical and unconvinced of SW until they can show us the goods. Would you agree Jason?
:D

I guess I'm just a huge grlevelx fan. Sure, there are plenty of other radar programs out there, but I just don't think they even compare to GR software. I'm not sure if you saw it in my last post, but wait until the next version (not update) of Grlevel3 comes out. I think that's why he hasn't updated it in a while with new features. He's busy working on the new version. This is only an assumption, as I have no inside info on the company.

I think once the new version comes out, people will be ticked off because they wasted their money on other radar software. Again, this is just my opinion.

I don't think asking for national composite is a ridiculous request at all, remember that some laptops with lower end video cards can't support multiple instances of GRLevel3. I know after 2 instances of GRLevel3 on mine the rest just loads a black screen.

It is a very popular request asked by tons upon tons of people, yet Mike just tends to overlook the request for some reason and won't add it.

There have been dumb requests, but I don't think asking for national composite is one.

He "overlooks" it because he is working on that as a separate app... When you are in the heart of the chase - you don't need a national composite.

When you start adding bells and whistles to an application that aren't related to its main purpose - the main purpose can oftentimes get muddied down. If you're familiar with NIDS imagery, you'll know that it can't just be slapped together to make a composite.

This is actually something GR is capable of doing with a placefile. Check out this link:
http://www.tornadonerds.com/gis/placefiles.txt

Edit: I thought there was a placefile for a rough national composite on there instead of having to add each site... hmm, I'll look around for it.

Let me clarify.

1. My site is my passion for the software and I am not supported in ANY WAY by GR software.
2. I am not slamming SW I am stating what I have personally seen..I have not seen the new beta so I can't comment on that. However, what I have seen in the past didn't impress me.
3. Finally use what you like.

That's weird because I have a ATI mobility radeon express 200 card which I think is pretty low as far as quality. I loaded up 5 instances of Level3 on my laptop and they run just fine.

Joey, don't get me wrong. I think a national radar mosaic would be fine to have also, but I think it's going in the new version. I think if we have patience, we'll be blown away by the new stuff in the updated version.

Will this updated version be free for all members? I have GRLevel 3 and I am wondering will this be a automatic update or one I have to download? Sorry for going off topic.

I am sure SW is a descent program. (Can't say anything untill I try the new version) I just can't afford any monthly fee's right now. I only went with GRLevel3 because I realized only one payment of 80$ was a good deal for the software.

Good Luck with your new SW program.
