Sneak Peek Swift Weather Pro

Since when did SwiftWX require a monthly charge? I haven't seen their website in quite a long time, and in the purchase section I notice it says $14.50/mo or $159.50/year. Since when? I purchased SwiftWX a couple of years ago for a one time fee and still have and use it. I'm confused of what changed and when?

I can't say as I dom't know - I've been using GR3. I downloded a trial version of SW awhile back, that is why they sent me the email. If they update the data really fast and have so many new an useable features, then I just might give them a test spin this coming season. Temperature/dewpoints are provided as well. If they were to put RUC2 data into the progream - like dewponts/CAPE-CINH/etc- it could be very cool I think. What they have looks very interesting...

SwiftWx has GONE a long way down since that subscription method was added. Bottom line is that the product is OVERPRICED and for what you get with it you can get GR3 and add SEVERAL placefiles/shapefiles and achieve the same result. You can even get storm tracks, and bow echo tracks as well.

I have tons of these on my site. See sig (GrLevelXStuff)

So pay a one time fee for GR3 and customize it the way that you want or get SwiftWx to which you are REQUIRED to purchase a subscription to even use the program....I think the choice is clear.

Until you start figuring in the costs for all the dedicated feeds, and everything else. Then, you have to deal with managing the feeds, and how some of the feeds tend to change, or are down, etc.

Let's just say there's some stuff coming up in this version that are very cool, very simple to use, and I think the core Swift users will enjoy the software.

If you're a GrlevelX user, great, that's fine, but if your only motive is to jump down someone's throat and try to drive traffic to your site, then perhaps this is not the correct forum to do so.

Eric, I don't think anyone is trying to drive traffic to their site. If there is a potential piece of software I'm looking at buying I would certainly want to hear the opinions of others before buying it. If I can get the place files for GRLevel3 or StormLab to do what I would otherwise be paying SwiftWX to get, I would rather go for the placefiles.

I bought SwiftWX years ago when it was a one time fee, I used a few times back then before I had GRLevel3 but have since stopped using it. I personally don't think SwiftWX was worth the one time fee paid back then, I certainly doubt it has gotten any better and doubt it'll be worth the $15/mo fee now. That's just my opinion, I have yet to see anything to convince me otherwise.

Quite honestly I was quite surprised that SwiftWX has a monthly charge, I was not aware of that until last night and when I first saw that my initial thought was "that's insane... why? it wasn't that great to begin with, nwo they want to charge to $15/mo". That was seriously my thought when I noticed that. Anyways, that's just my .02 cents.

It's obvious that SW must be supplying feed data to their program - in much the same way that one can get an AllisonHouse account and pay a monthly fee for GR3. But GR3 - of course - doesn't require AllisonHouse to work. If they (SW) are 'giving' you the software - in a sense - then you are paying for their feed/data cost.
I mean; how else can they be offering level 3 data plus what look like RUC data combined? If that is what they have cooked up, I might be interested.

I don't work for them, I just got an email from them for using a trial version of this software in the past and I thought it sounded interesting. I thought I would post it here to get some feedback fro those who already have/use SW Pro. Apparently they have a new company strategy and a new game plan with all new software. I think they need to make a video demonstration in-depth if they want to get more bites. I would.

I think it's legal to say now that I'm in the beta program for Swift. Of course I agreed to not discuss anything of detail but yes, there are additional services and such and Rory needs to pay a fee for outside services to be displayed and passes some of that cost on to the user. You can pick and choose what you find most beneficial.

Having used Swift for a couple of years now, I've been VERY happy with it. Like any other software, I've learned how to interpret maps and settings to get me closer than I thought I'd ever be.

I do think that a demo DVD is eventually in the works as well.

Mark me down as a happy customer... :D

hmm there is always one...I have no need to push traffic to my site. I get TONS. That was not the intention to my post. I was stating my OPINION of a software that has been floundering for years! I then gave an alternative and a location to where one can customize that software.

I used to be sponsored by Rory years ago passing up the opportunity to be sponsored by another weather radar software only to learn that SwiftWX was not user friendly, a pain in the butt GUI and just plain MESSY with the entire setup.

I am sure that the subscription was including the feed...I figured that but WHY you HAVE to use their feed their stuff all it sounds like to me is another Proprietary software. Now-a-days people want to customize their weather radar program. Thus my backing of GR software. StormLab is another great radar software as well. That was the only means to my posting.

So again before you pop off calling me a SPAMMER be sure that you see the whole picture :D

I'm tempted to jump up and trumpet the virtues of GR3 over Swift or any competing radar software, which is what tends to happen with threads on this subject. I started with GR3, I now own all the Gibson Ridge products, and I'm an incorrigible fan.

Realistically, though, if you find what you like, great. In looking it over, the Swift upgrade strikes me as a well-conceived product. One consideration, though, if $$ is a factor: with the cost of six months subscribing to Swift, you'd have more than paid the $80 price to own GR3. No further costs after that, unless you opt to use a dedicated data feed such as Allisonhouse--and even then, at ten bucks a month, you still pay less.

Yea, I'm one of those big fans of Grlevelx products. In my opinion, nothing on the market can even touch them as far as price, customer service and the proven track record of the software.

From the other side of the aisle... I also downloaded GRLevel3 when I originally began my search and within a couple of days, trashed it. I was able to do what I wanted with the Swift GUI just fine.

The bottom line is that people choose what they want from a product and slamming someone else's software just comes across as a personal attack when you're involved with a competing product.

[/FONT] FWIW, I received this email from Rory this morning. This must be some kind of automated email, since I never asked him any questions.

There has been some confusion, even rumors starting about the video I sent out yesterday. Please, dont believe them.

Click here to sort out the fact from fiction

I have been inundated with responses to the email I sent yesterday. Frankly, I do not have time to respond -- i have a new product to release, after all!!

To save time, I am answering your questions in this video:

P.S. You won't find the explanation here, Eric. Click this link to watch the video. Thanks.
