By the way, here's a 19th century Scottish minister and folklore collector who expressed some notable enthusiasm over a double rainbow:
had the weather turned out all we ventured to predict, we could not have seen what we saw the other evening –a sight, the magnificence and splendour of which must haunt us till our dying day. It was a double rainbow, both perfect arches of glory, of the vividest and most brilliant colouring, spanning the dark gorge of Glencoe!
