Hey All,

I was fortunate to be able to attend the service yesterday. It was very moving. There was a portion of the service where attendees were encouraged to stand and share about their friends. Rich Keen (a CU professor) spoke at the service, and he suggested a tornado naming convention in honor Tim.

Ken Langford

Perhaps this is less than worthy, but I've already begun thinking of future storms that feature explosive growth while in mature tornado state of function as 'Samurizing'.

here is a short tribute i made. its my first time making something like this, so it needs work. my eyes were blurred throughout making this. when i finally stop crying i'll make another one.

Perfect! Very-heartfelt and beautiful. To anyone who hasn't watched, it's worth it!

I haven't been on this site in a while (school mostly). In light of this news, I've been lurking for a few days, just as saddened and heavy-hearted as the rest of you. I was very fortunate to have met Tim back in 2001 and I credit him as being one of those influential in my return to weather as a hobby and career. He is so welcoming, genuine, kind, brilliant and everything else you all have remarked on. I only wish I got to speak to him more often. My deepest sympathies to the families of Tim, Paul and Carl. They are, in my opinion, heroes. On a more favorable note, we know they're up there watching over us, wishing us luck and reminding us to stay safe, just as Tim wrote in his last tweet.

RIP Tim, Paul and Carl.

Lastly, thanks to all for the updates, links, etc.

Good day all,

For those that didn't get to attend the service for Tim and Paul, or missed the live stream, ABC 7 out of Denver has the entire service posted online for viewing. Lots of great talks from various folks, really a moving service:

Thanks for posting this as I was unable to make the service due to work constraints!

It was VERY emotional for me as well - But I had to see it.

These three were special people and I hope they will never be forgotten!

I want to join stormtrack in saying the last hello to Tim, Paul and Carl. Hi guys, we'll never forget what you have done for tornadoes research and for the people. Rest in peace.

Sorry to chime in so much later than everybody else. I've had a tough time with this. I've been thinking about these guys a lot over the past couple weeks; stunned and just didn't know what to say. Like everybody else, I can't fathom "why them?"

I don't want to misrepresent myself. I'd only met them at ChaserCon, not out on the road. I thought they were great guys, but it's not like I knew them well or they'd consider me a friend or anything. I sat with Carl and Paul at this year's ChaserCon. Maybe that's part of why I've been so weirded out by this. I was sitting and talking with those guys and now they're just gone. This was the first time I'd met Paul. He seemed to be a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. (Maybe a little bit shy?) And Carl; damn smart and seemed like he'd be a rock-steady guy to have on your team. And of course Tim was mostly busy with the running of the conventions, but he'd always been kind and accessible to me. An order of magnitude smarter than I am, I'm sure, but he never acted like it. I especially loved getting a tour of his truck this year with his "big kahuna" camera he'd repurposed for lightning research. I'm glad I snapped a few pictures to remember that moment by.

Thank you, Tim. Thank you, Paul. Thank you, Carl.

I already posted in this thread, but now that some time has passed, and I've been on the road chasing every single day since the services, there's something that I can't stop thinking about, yet to my knowledge nobody else is talking about it.

It sounds like Twister with the climactic ending screwed up, but someone at the services told a few of us privately that the guys got two probes deployed. On top of that, several vidcams were rolling. Two probes successfully deployed... apparently... right smack into the middle of the largest tornado ever recorded on planet earth, with the second-highest winds ever recorded.

At the risk of being cheesy, I borrow some words from Abraham Lincoln:

"(the world) can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain"

Sure it's cheesy, Bob, but sometimes cheesy is appropriate. I think it's very fitting. I've also heard that probes were found and they were activated. I assumed they'd been deployed but I wasn't sure. If that's the case, getting some fantastic data from those probes would be about the most fitting conclusion I could imagine.

Kathy and all the Samaras family send heartfelt thanks to the weather community for all your support, sympathy, and kind wishes expressed in several ways, including the many cards received. They have carried Kathy, her daughters, and all the family through this difficult and demanding time. Kathy sends a special thanks to those in central Oklahoma who provided invaluable assistance and gracious hospitality.

Thanks! Elke Edwards

a heart broken

It's hard just to know what to say..................... when I first heard about this my first thought was dear God no............ the pain and tears would come in time and they did but after that came the rememberence of tim and his mission in Meteorology/ Severe Storms/Tornadoes ect. Tim was always wanting to know more and his proffessionalism and his desire to want to save lives and just the kind of man that he was spoke volumes about the better kind of people that I belive that we all need to be. Not just some of the time but ALL of the time. We will never ever evvvvver forget tim,his son or his chase partner carl and we MUST continue to keep tim's dream alive and continue to learn more about these events and continue to try to save as many lives as possible. Tim,carl, paul were wonderful and great guys and my thoughts and prayers will be with there families in this difficult time. WE WILL Remember them all and every time the weather changes we will think of them and may the angels hold the families close and give them comfort and in time peace. and we will keep tim's dream alive TO HONOR HIM,HIS SON and CARL.

Good day all,

I STILL get tears over these people ... Especially now that I am (finally) editing my video on May 31 for the web.

Any news or information about donations for this? A foundation of some sort for these folks and their families?

It is hard to believe it has been 2 years ago....... It brought back memories of some of the other chasers we have lost as well over the years.

Eric Flescher, Eric Nguyen, Andy Gabrielson and some of the others whom I cannot even remember the names of who used to haunt this forum.

Forgive me for the necro thread..... I guess I was bothered even more realizing people like the Eric's that we seem to have forgotten..
