Mike, I don't think is quite an accurate statement because after reading the articles you post a couple of them do suggest that there might be some slight influence due to La Nina. I believe it mentioned slight increase in number and in stronger tornadoes particularly for the Midwest, but I'd have to comb back through to list the effects accurately. The Super Outbreak 1974 was a La Nina period, and I believe May 3rd also occurred during a La Nina.
