It another new guy!

Hey Guys (and girls),
My name is Jimmy Silverstein, im from the north suburbs of Chicago, IL and am currently finishing my second semester at Northern Illinois University. I too am a meteorology major, I'm taking Severe and Hazardous weather w/ Dr. Walker Ashley right now and absolutely love it. I've been a spectator on stormtrack for at least 8 months now, so real excited to ask questions and learn even more, especially from many of you with so much experience in the field. Although I currently do not know what I want to do w/ my major, I know it revolves somewhere around severe wx. I'm really excited because I am going on the College of DuPage Storm Chasing Trip for ten days from May 29-June 7, led by my own professor, Dr. Walker Ashley. I hope to gain a lot of experience from these ten days to perhaps go out on my own next year. I do love all weather, even if it's just laying on the grass, watching the puffy cumulus and making animals and objects out of the clouds. Last year I did "chase" a nice looking shelf cloud back in June 12th, got some good pics out of it. I just purchased myself Grlevel3 software about 3 months ago, and am definitely enjoying it. Well anyways I look forward to talking to all of you in the future.

Greetings from CA

Greetings All,

My name is Toni and I live in the no-weather state of California.

I have no formal weather training and developed my love of the atmospheric sciences from my father, who was a self-taught meteorologist. He introduced me to the concepts of storm development and some other rudimentary physics that ignited my fascination for weather.

I've studied to the point where I can read and understand the basic charts that go into forecasting, but cannot yet develop one on my own. Through the advanced technologies available today; i.e. live streaming feed and GRLevel3 nowcasting, I hope to learn more as time goes on. Perhaps I'll one day be able to make a trip out to the Mids to see first hand the incredible phenomena that has addicted us all. Cheers!

Hey all.

I'm Justin and currently residing in the absolutely boring weather state of New Jersey. I am originally from Wichita and was blessed (if you can call it that) to be brought up right in the smack of Tornado Alley. The Hesston tornado captivated my attention at age 7 and by the Andover storm, a year later, I was a full-fledged severe weather nut making my own maps and all!

I've been a lurker for a while and have really enjoyed all the commentary and info on this site! It looks like I'll be moving back to Wichita come May, just in time for the good stuff, right? (crosses fingers) I plan on doing my first-ever chase sometime then.

Peace!

Good evening everyone. I am a photographer from Saskatchewan, canada. I have been chasing storms up here for about 10 years and I have always relied on weather reports and chasing by 'eye balling' the storms. I am spending a few weeks in May this year in the Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska corridor and I am looking for some advice about technology. I have a laptop and would like to access radar data while I am on the road.

I am not sure if this is the correct area to ask a question like this but this is my first post so if any one has any advice I would really appreciate it.

Hello

Hello all! My name is Zack Hargrove and I am a storm chaser wannabe who is about to begin meteorology program at University of North Carolina at Asheville in the Fall. I am wrapping up my core work and an Associate of Geology degree here in Cartersville, GA at a community college. I've been a weather/volcano junkie since I was in diapers and I'm excited to finally get into the nuts and bolts of my dream major. I probably won't be posting much until I get some more knowledge in my program, but I've been reading the board a long time and I am very happy to be a member now!

Welcome to Storm Track, Zack!

That would be me James ! My name is Mark Cater from the piney woods of SE Arkansas- a spotter or chaser's worst nightmare!

Hello, I am a newbie.

I having been browsing this site since 1997 when I still lived in California. I now live in eastern Pennsylvania and usually pass through Kansas twice a year on AMTRAK on my way to the west coast and back. I took a meteorology class when I was at Penn State in 1968 which raised my interest. I have much to learn yet before I have anything to offer yet. I won't even attempt to chase storms yet until I learn a bit more. I will be doing more browsing until I learn more so I can communicate more intelligently.

Nice meeting you, Charles, and everyone here. Y'all have been a great source of education for a PorchChaser like me (no car). Learning a lot. =] Thank you.
