New radar app for Droid

Some carriers have agreements with Google that restrict out of country market app sales, in Canada I have no issues using my Canadian and/or American credit cards to by apps although a friend in Germany was only able to purchase out of country apps using his American credit card. Pretty odd!

Frustrating that I cant get radarscope or PYKL3 for my android with out rooting my phone. Im in New Zealand with a NZ bought Galaxy S2 but am unable to purchase as both apps are unavailable in my country, any way round this without rooting my phone?

I've added New Zealand to the list of purchasable countries. Enjoy.

So....

Downloaded the app on my Thunderbolt. Worked pretty much ok when I opened it. Shut down and opened a bit later, and all I get is a black screen. Menu functions work, but the display is just black. I am thinking refund here.

You should just work with Joe and try to figure out the cause of your issue first. Have you attempted a reinstall of the app? I've had a few minor issues with the program but nothing a reinstall didn't fix.

Okay, so I have a Droid (a Droid 3 to be more specific) and I was thinking about buying RadarScope as I have heard some good things about it, but I was wondering, in your experience, is it even comparable to Gibson? My laptop, the poor, old thing that it is, really cannot run Gibson in the way that I want it to, so I am fearful to spend the $75 to get Gibson. I did some research on the matter and found some things that RadarScope doesn't do that Gibson does (namely it doesn't show TVSs), but if anyone has any suggestions, just let me know. I have a few radar apps already on my Droid (ie. Ultimate Radar, Radar Buddy, etc.) but I just want to know for sure if this app is good before I spend $10 on it.

$10, that's less than $.50 a day for a month. You can find that laying on the ground! :-) Radarscope is absolutely worth the price. Does it have all the features of GR3? No. But it really isn't designed to compete with it either. And right now, Radarscope has one big advantage over GR#, dual pol products. I found myself using it more than GR3 at times this past Friday because of that reason alone. And after a few more years of using level III products and feeling more comfortable with interpreting the various products , you'll find that TVS' and meso markers will become distractions a lot of times in level III data. Go ahead, treat yourself! :-)

I suppose, although I am a poor college student, (:D) so $10 is a tad pricey, but it seems like it is a good app, based upon what you said, as well as other reviews from people. It does allow you to see the entire US, correct?

It has all the 88D sites. Like GR3, though, it does not have a national composite. For national composites I use either the iMap app for My-Cast Lite. But it is a great app for level III data and I bet you'll find it's worth $10 or my name's not Orville Redenbacher.

Wonderful. :) Thanks so much for your help, Mike. I have an app that allows me to see the national composite via NOAA's site (that I totally forgot about until right now), but I will indeed be purchasing radarscope right now.

Don't forget about PYKL3 Radar, which is what this thread was originally about. It does everything Radarscope does, including displaying DP products. It just may do it in different ways Radarscope does. I have paid for both and use PYKL3 99% of the time. Joe, the developer, is also currently working on the beta's for 2.3 and it will have a number of additional features then the market 2.2, including national composites, a much easier way to navigate between sites, better looping controls, and others. If you haven't paid for radarscope yet, I'd certainly take a look at PYKL3 as well.

I have both radarscope and Pykl3 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and my Droid tablet and can honestly say I prefer pykl3. Radarscope on the droid seems a bit sluggish compared to its iDevice counterpart, where as Pykl3 is very smooth in movement and displays much more GIS data and has customizable palettes for its products. The upcoming features will blow you away, Joe is as dedicated as they come to making sure everyone's requests get taken into consideration.

If you can't decide which one to get, cut back on the cheeseburgers for a couple weeks and grab both. You won't regret it.

Thanks so much for your input, Adam and Brandon. I just checked out Pykl3 and it seems to have better recent reviews than Radarscope does. I have yet to buy Radarscope, but perhaps I will indeed buy both as both seem to be pretty decent looking radar apps. I got the feeling that Radarscope might be a bit sluggish when I was looking at some of the most recent reviews. However, I like that Pykle3 currently has GIS data and more customizing features-I like those type of features so I only have to go on one app to see everything (especially for when I do start to chase and those seconds count).

While I am not really big on cheeseburgers, (although, I will admit that made me laugh :D) I suppose I could cut down on something else in order to buy both, which I plan on buying both as, despite Radarscope's sluggish, it still seems to be a rather phenomenal app.

I should have inserted my "You may/may not actually eat cheeseburgers" disclaimer somewhere in there =)

:P Don't worry about it. I'm not a vegetarian type in the slightest, but I do have other weaknesses, which are apparently fancy radar apps (and, let's face it, really any weather apps) for my Droid. :)
