New radar app for Droid

Are you absolutely sure that your Spotter Network ID is correctly entered? There are hundreds of folks out there for which it works.
Joe

Tried it today without the spotter network option checked, still didn't track me. I think it has something to do with my ROM. I'll do more investigating.

Please do keep me informed if you find something. Perhaps it will help someone else one day too.
Joe

Confirmed today that my ROM is the problem. Flashed a rooted stock ROM and tracking worked perfectly. What is strange is that your app is the only GPS enabled app that I have that does not work properly with cyanogen. Do you want me to try to gather a logcat or anything like that?

Ive noticed while messing around with Radarscope that the BV 0.5 tilt seems to have higher resolution than the other tilts or SRV. Will PYKL3 have a higher resolution BV as well? I'm not even sure of the reason why this is in Radarscope. In GRlevel 3 your can get a high resolution on the SRV 0.5 tilt if you have BV 0.5 product selected as well so maybe that is some sort of indication. Just curious about that. One night when I was using Radarscope there was a very good couplet on a storm and I could get more detail when switching to BV 0.5, hence my question.

I think I am going to jump into the smart phone world and PYKL3 is helping my decision in going for an Android phone. Seems like a killer app!

my spotter network hasn't been working either. I have the correct ID typed in it and it's never showed me when I check it. I'm using a Droid Incredible.

Thanks for the nice comments. Ah yes, you have a sharp eye. This is something that I've documented as a limitation thus far only because I ran out of memory using the technique I started with. However, I am in the progress of converting to a much more efficient means of handling the radar data (from a memory and time to process perspective). I made some very good progress on the new radar renderer today and hope to have it working in the next few days. When I manage that, you'll get the full 1/4km BV resolution and I think you'll see a pretty noticable performance increase too. The 8 bit SRV is something I have planned as well.

Are you running version 2.04? What happens if you go to the Gesture pad and sign an upside down L (start in the upper left). Do you show a position? Does it say Network or GPS? Are you sure you've enabled network on your device in "Settings/Location"?

Joe

I attached the logcat I captured yesterday while it was searching for location.

I did the gesture pad "upside down L", and it shows coordinates and NETWORK. I look up the coordinates on google maps and they're about 2 miles from my location, so it gets somewhat of a location when starting up, but that's about it.

Bryan,
The logcat log definitely verified that the program was requesting GPS positioning from the device as I have a logging line which you'll see in there. However, the lat/lon being zero is odd. Were you outside with a clear view of the sky? Are you absolutely sure GPS positioining is enabled for your device under Settings/location? I recently had to take my daughter's Samsung outside for it to get ephemeris data before it would work inside. Just trying to rule out the options. BTW, what did you use to capture the logcat entries? Did you install the whole SDK was there an ADB grabber online somewhere?
Joe

I was outside at the time, yes. I have a few things I'm going to try with this ROM, including a new GPS driver. I'll do the new driver, then see what happens.

I used a free app called alogcat from the market to capture that.

Ok....let me know how it goes. I'll have to check out alogcat. That certainly can help with troubleshooting at times! One other thing, make sure that the Spotter Network ID you're using is the Application ID. I suspect that's not the problem based on the 0.0 in the Logcat, but stranger things have happened!

yes running v.2.04, it gives me long/lat/elevation. says GPS. network is enabled in Settings/Location. but my little dot never shows up on Spotter Network

Then the only thing left is to ensure that it is your SpotterNetwork ApplicationID and not your username which is entered. Typically a 12+ character alphanumeric.
