Live Streaming- Is it worth it?

I watched the twins on radar form my desk at work - all because I exhausted myself chasing every garbage setup in the weeks before and was focused on other things the days I should have been forecasting.

Exact same for me. I targeted Norfolk NE that Monday. I was low on vacation time anyway, and as soon as I saw all that morning convection up there I was thinking "Hey, just like like every other Nebraska trip this year" and turned around and went back to work. What a terrible mistake.

It's looking like we might get a chance to make a Nebraska decision again in a few days, but even if it's an "iffy" setup, at least it's on a Sunday and I won't have to take time off work.

As many have said you're not likely to get a large ROI by streaming video. Only a fraction of folks who actually streamed back in 2010-2011 made a decent amount of money and I guarantee that it is even harder to do so today. In order to actually make a decent amount you're going to need a large social media presence for your brand/company or a big-daddy chaser who is willing to share your stream to their audience. As many of have said it does take a considerable amount of effort and time to ensure you have a quality stream broadcasting during an event. I'd say that is a bit more difficult today verses a few years ago because folks now can stream using a higher bitrate thanks to increased LTE data and higher stream limits.

I guess its all about perspective and what your ROI goal is for your stream. Back in April of 2011 I think I ended up paying close to $200 in overage fees to Sprint on top of my usual $60ish a month contract fee. However I ended up making three times that much back from ads on the stream. That's an example of an exceptional ROI in streaming and more often than not you'll be lucky to break even with data fees.
