Leach chasers – it has to stop.

Nothing can compare to the dow leaches I'm sure(not that anyone in the above is). How many are in the actual DOW armada? The worst clustering is always around them. Then again, that's probably because they love to park so close to the interstate on/off ramps. I actually hope for some serious convergences on the next few chases. I know I could have gotten some crazy clustered images with the telephoto had I thought about it sooner. It took me a little work to get back to the interstate through this, since so many were coming north and there was only room for one lane of traffic(there'd probably have been room for 2 lanes had the film crews not needed so much to stand on....a pretty common scene...

Roger Hill or whomever,

I didn't accuse you, I asked who it was and others suggested it might be your company, read the thread. I only posted about it to let the guilty parties know that it was me, and that it's documented. I won't apologize for what we did out there or for what I said on this forum, since I never accused your tour company of anything, hence the reason I asked who it was.

If I was sure it was your company or you, rest assured that I'd have no problem posting the name of it or yourself. I just wanted to know who the morons were that parked one of their van sideways to not let others go north on the only north option for almost 5 miles...and had well over 30 tripods in the road. If these idiots ever cost me position on a storm again (that I was on from a towering cumulus cloud), they can make the check out to cash the next time I see them.

Well, after talking with my other drivers, they told me someone drove by us driving like crazy on the northbound dirt road, yelling STOP BLOCKING THE ROAD (dirt road). Was that you? We had pulled off the north side of highway 4 WELL off the road on what looked like a dirt road that went nowhere. One person told me they did not get totally off the dirt road when someone, if it was you in either a white or tan car? yelled out at them. If that was, I apologize we did not get completely off the DIRT road. But still, no reason to act like this! You have no idea how many times over the years we have had this happen to us.

I can tell you honestly that whole weekend the worst chase convergence we saw was the one Mike H. has a pic of because we were right next to him I think. We sat there and watched that road go from chaser frenzy to just us and a few of us after about ten minutes. It was quite nice on that road alone with just a few of us talking. As far as the guys doing things they shouldn't, goes it was really good we didn't run into any chasers that were distracting or disrespectful maybe that is because 90% of the chase over the May 22-23 timeframe we were on dirt roads.

And for you Mike H. and you want to get away from chasers before initiation try finding a smaller town to sit in. That's what we do and it is always nice to sit out in the Plains pretty peacefully.

Though occasionally we will chase with a few other chasers, but we don't mind because seeing tornadoes and storms with good friends makes the chase that much more fun. In addition our car has nothing really on it except for a storm spotter magnet on the back.

I don't mind them that much when the storm is good, or there are good road options around. Like that one, I was parked there before most got there, so it never bugged me as I was too busy taking stills and video. Even when I left it didn't bug me, since the storm looked to be getting rather cold. As bad as it was around there then, it was much worse earlier when the first storm crossed I70 near there. I had to make vans wait behind me while I did a three point turn, since there was no other option. They tried to do one too, but gave up on it and went west. I just saw no options in the intersection just west of me with the cars parked in all directions and driving in all directions. My car is my biggest problem, since it's really easy to get stuck in...especially having to do a 3 point turn on some of those roads.

There were some convergence issues with the La Crosse/Bison cell, but nothing like that photo..wow.

Did anyone else encounter the Kansas Highway Patrol super trooper? He kept approaching chaser convergances and "encouraging" people to leave. Near Susank, he flat out blocked the road at one point and made people turn around, even though traffic was about 2-3 miles ESE of the rotating wall cloud. I suspect that convergance behavior (i.e. blocked roadways) is partially to blame.:o

I would guess this has to be the same group of white vans I have seen 4 times now in the past 3-4 weeks that intentionally block roads with either their vehicles or people or both. The ones I have seen are mainly Colorado tags.
We should all start taking photos and posting them here of the people and vehicles doing this. They are already ruining anyone else's chance of getting by to go to another spot or take a picture near there, so might as well take their photos.
It should not matter if a road is a deadend, through street, paved, dirt, or any other. It should not be blocked.

Since I mentioned Roger Hill and Silver Lining Tours, it wasn't my intent to start a pissing match. Someone mentioned a tour company with CO tags and Silver Lining Tours came to my mind, being they're based out of CO.

Blocking a paved state highway or any larger highway is one thing - blocking a BFE dirt road is a bit different. No need to get the undies in a wad. I blocked a couple people on Fri... I knew it, I waved and got out of the way, they waved back, and all is good.

Now, standing in the middle of a US highway with your vehicle not totally off the road is another thing.

I agree Dennis NO road should be blocked. As also nobody should be speeding 80 MPH down a dirt road, having no regard for their or anyone else's safety, as we all know many people do. I have seen it from many chasers, as we all have. Also, no threatening should be done of anyone. We are all here together, chasers, friends; not police, "it's all about me" or anything the like. We are here to CHASE. If my tour group has blocked any road it will never happen again (but I can assure you it has never BLOCKED a road!). This situation in question here, my driver had not pulled all the way off, not realizing that he hadn't moved completely off, IF this is even the event. Nobody was sideways blocking a road unless we were turning around in the road (3 pointer). I will personally make sure it is corrected and does NOT happen again. Nobody has the right to keep anyone from the "storm". It is about the storm, the atmosphere, the environment, not about us.

People should really look deep inside themselves. We've all not pulled completely off, been ticked off when someone pulls in front of you and blocks your view, drives by at 80 and almost makes you jump into a ditch (had that happen on 4 occasions this past 2 years!) to keep from getting hit. I can go on and on and on, as could many of you. Very few chasers, including probably the majority of this group, are guilt free of breaking the law while chasing for one thing or another.

The observations of somebody from overseas my not be entirely welcome, but here goes.

During my trip to the US last year I did observe this leech chasing (among other things ).

The one thing I swore not to do when I chased last year over there was NOT to tag other chasers.

The amusing event I observed occurred at Hoxie, Kansas on the 22nd May 2007. I arrived at Hoxie purely by visual navigation/observation - finding the dryline by eye. The local service station/store had WiFi, when I arrived there was perhaps one other chaser there. Over the course of the next 30 mins many other chasers and Roger Hill's team turned up.

Now Roger did not help himself here, but after another 20 mins or so Roger comes out of store booming " We have to head east ", I guess when you have a carload of passengers to organise you have to speak loud. However what amazed me was why just about every second other chaser took it as a signal to get in their car and leave too. Five minutes later I was virtually alone again at Hoxie.

Now I not suggesting every one made their decision based on Roger's call. His call was timed almost exactly when the first CAP breaker appeared on radar.
