Inverted trough?

I've heard the words "inverted trough" in many AFD's. Is it like a ridge or something?

no it's definately not a ridge...

its is a trough of low pressure in which it's apex is to teh north of the open end for the northern hemisphere to put it in real general terms. common in the lower latitudes near the sub tropics and tropics.
