has anyone witnessed two tornadoes at the same time?

May 29, 2004 there were 3 different times where there were 2 tornadoes on the ground at the same time. Unfortuneatly, I didn't have a good view of them to get good pics.

Not to hijack the topic, but the responses to this thread show how 2004 and 2005 (2004 in particular) might just be one of the most legendary two-year periods in chasing history.

Don't forget 2003. 2003 and 2004 produced more than 2004 and 2005. 2004 however will always stand alone.

Mmmmm maybe. Maybe not. Depends on your opinion.

You only need one-good-storm to make your year, you know.

Twice on 29 May 2004. The set that Shane posted:
http://ww2.convectionconnection.com:8080/C...04/crw_9858.htm

And at another time earlier in the day.....
To the NW west we had:
http://ww2.convectionconnection.com:8080/C...04/crw_9838.htm
(Also note the area of pudding swirl a few hundred yards due N of us)
AND we had this tornado (which was confirmed by spotters) to the ENE:

Actually... tornadoes at the same time isn't very rare... there are plenty of cases I've seen during the month of May from 2001-2005 that I've seen during my research. A real good case that comes to mind is 5/7/2002 near KDDC.

What? When we talk about big chase years we should't recognize any that had more than one good storm? Last I checked no one was saying anything about what it took for a chaser to have a good year. We again were commenting on best case scenarios while talking about a couple years that had several good days. Yes I know it only takes one good storm to make a year, but hey, I'd rather have more.....and hey....that was what we were talking about-tornado production during a couple years..NOT what it took for a person to have a good year.

Sigh. Hmmmm maybe, maybe not nothin...UNLESS you want to argue in context with what we are even talking about. Then have at it.

A few dates not yet discussed? :

22 May, 2004- Two tornadoes simultaneously occurred in Furnas/Harlan, Cnty Nebraska (not clear just where these tornadoes were w.r.t. to my position). These were NOT assoc with the same supercell.

15 May, 2003 – Two tornadoes simultaneously occurred near Stratford, Texas.

12 June, 2001- Two tornadoes (out of a family of eight assoc with the same parent supercell) simultaneously occurred in southeast Fall River Cnty, South Dakota.

30 August, 1998 - Date is in question - Two tornadoes simultaneously occurred west of Haigler, Nebraska.

31 May, 1996 - Three tornadoes (out of a family of eight assoc with the same parent supercell) simultaneously occurred south and east of Sheridan Lake, Colorado.

8 August, 1996 - Two pairs of non-supercell tornadoes simultaneously occurred east of DIA along the DCVZ; one tornado persisted for 36 minutes.

9 July, 1993 - Two tornadoes simultaneously occurred (out of a family of six assoc with the same parent supercell) southeast of Stratton, Colorado.

Well this one isn't from the plains. On May 9, 1995 central Illinois had a mini outbreak. There were 2 tornadoes on the ground just east of Elkhart, Illinois that I and a few others observed.

The first time was on May 5, 1993... after dark so I don't have any pictures....but the F3, Hooker, OK tornado was still rather large when the F4, Moscow, KS tornado was doing it's thing.

Twice on June 8, 1995 - As the Pampa, TX tornado was winding down.... what would become the Hoover, TX tornado was getting started: http://www.okweatherwatch.com/ama2.jpg

Later... as the Kellerville, TX tornado was approaching - I saw two satellite tornadoes... one of them here: http://www.okweatherwatch.com/ama11.jpg

June 3, 2003 - who knows what was going on near Friona, TX. http://www.okweatherwatch.com/fin6.jpg There were 3 different areas of rotation and they didn't seem to be rotating like a large multi-vortex tornado.

June 24, 2003 - saw a satellite tornado with the violent Manchester, tornado before it got to the town. Later... two tornadoes near Erwin, SD - http://www.okweatherwatch.com/desa3

One of the more impressive events was the May 10, 2004 Limon tornado family where this was caught just after sunset: http://www.okweatherwatch.com/limo27.jpg

And of course this last years Hill City deal.....

Ken Johnson and myself observed several tornadoes on May 29th, 2004 but at one time we had the tornado near Freeport KS and another small tornado begin to develop to our west, but it didn't last long. Pretty cool thing to see.

So far these are the only 2 I've seen on the ground at the same time. I believe in the image the second was lifting at the time. This was Stockton, KS.
