• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

GRL3 Meso Markers

My GRLevel3 is no longer showing meso markers correctly. I know they're supposed to be there, because my radar had several instances where Mesocyclones were identified under Attributes, but did not appear anywhere onscreen, especially in situations when they were supposed to appear.

Pictured below is an instance where I detected a meso on the Storm Attributes window, but did not see one on my own radar. I followed this storm and never saw a single marker as the following shot shows. This picture HAS a meso associated with it, and is courtesy of Tornadvideos.net - not me.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks in advance!

Yes thanks for reminding me of that Rob, I'd forgotten I'd tweaked the NMD settings.

I used the page here. The recommendations were to do the following:

1) Added an NMD filter dialog. The new NMD product is almost useless because it spits out too many icons. To help make it useful again, there's an NMD Filter Settings dialog that you access via View->NMD Filter Settings. There you can select several criteria that an NMD must meet before it's shown on the display:

a. NMD has valid Cell ID. Checking this removes NMDs that are not associated with a storm cell (eg. ??). This removes many of the bogus rotations that you see in the light rain areas behind storms. [I have checked this]

b. NMD found on lowest tilt. Checking this removes NMDs that weren't found on the lowest tilt. [I have checked this, but I am debating on unchecking it. Won't this mean that mesos further away from a radar won't show up as reliably?]

c. Min SR. This slider sets the minimum SR that an NMD must have before it will be shown. [Left at 0]

d. Min MSI. This slider sets the minimum MSI an NMD must have to be displayed. [Left at 0]

e. Min LLRV. Slider that sets the minimum displayable LLRV on an NMD [Left at 0]

f. Min LLDV. Similar to e. but for the LLDV parameter. [Left at 0]

g. Max Base. Sets the maximum NMD base in Kft that will be displayed. I found a setting of 5 works well. [Placed at 5]

h. Min Depth. Sets the minimum depth in Kft an NMD must have to be displayed. A setting of 8-10, combined with a Max Base of 5, is very effective in filtering out unimportant rotations. [Placed at 8]

How are these settings? The site had no recommendations for items c - f. Should I leave these at zero, or put a value to them?

Also, observe the little "red dot" marker in the picture above. I do not and have never had this type of marker. I only have the pink TVS (which showed on this storm for me) and larger circles with arrows. I'd prefer having the smaller markers there, but I don't know how to access them in the GR settings, or whether I have to download a custom package for them. All other GRL3's but mine have these smaller markers.

Thanks again for your help ...

b keep checked - that's saying that if the 0.5* slice has no NMD, then it won't display. You don't want elevated stuff showing up.

Rest seem to be good.

Thanks. I'll keep the settings as-is then.

I think the problem is that I just don't have a graphic for the meso markers, like my picture above does (from tornadovideos.net). Where can I get some graphics so I can see them on my radar?

I too would like to know where you can get markers. I've added some stuff to my software like ASOS observations and the OK mesonet, SPC outlooks, etc... but I don't particulary care for the larger meso markers now.

I also agree Darrin that your filter settings look good as I've been playing around with those settings myself.

I never needed to tweak this but where is the NMD filter settings or is that a add on script?

edit sorry I just updated from 1.41 to 1.43 and there the option is now.
