Great storm structures YOU have seen/photographed

I know this won't compare in size to the plains storms, but for Ontario, the June 14, 2004 event was no exception. This is a barrel-shaped supercell and rotating wall cloud southwest of Elmira, Ontario along hwy 85.

This was by far the best storm I ever saw in Ontario. It is not very often we get these kind of things, structurally, here... often our storms are HP and the summer haze can cause problems for visibility.

All those colors (which I can't quite see from your photo ) must have been fantastic. To see all the colors that's when you need a RAW image to process.

One of my favorites was from last June East of Lubbock. I punched the core trying to get to this storm and when I came out of some quarter size hail I had an incredible view from inside the bears cage. The photo does not do it justice since I was driving and took the shot at about 45 mph while holding the camera over the top of my car. The sky was a dark greenish brown color back towards the core and had a thin pink sky between the meso and shaft. It was backlit with a light orange glow and even had some blue a tad farther south before hitting the anvil of the sup to the south. This is not a Mike Hollingshead shot but enough for me to jog up some good memories.

This storm put down a brief tornado but the big show was with the storm to the south when it put down a huge wedge. I believe this was June 12th.

Nice picture of the wallcloud with your tornado below. Excellent. All the pictures you all are submitting are real nice. I will put up my favorites soon from Texas in 2001 with Doug Raflik.

Here are a few of my favs over the years.........

This was taken about 15-20 Miles West of Last Chance. It has always been a favorite of mine because of how blue the sky was and how sharp and crisp the updrafts were.

This was my first tornado.........you could see the meso forming from forever and a day. The storm was initially over Briggsdale CO when it first went TOR and I was sitting East of Brush and could see the meso. It was on the ground for about 30 min and never felt a drop of rain until after the tornado dissipated!! The hail was a little smaller than golf balls and like slush when it finally came.

It was fantastic. I really wanted to stop and shoot some pics but the wall was rotating pretty good and looked like it would produce any minute and I would have been stuck between a tornado and hail core.. THe road was only about a mile south and I had to drive under the wall to get in position from the rear. I really wanted to try and make it to the storm south of there but couldn't resist stopping. It put down a short tornado about ten minutes after taking this shot but the cell to the south put down a massive wedge, a multi vortex and then had two on the ground at the same time all in about a half hours time.

Here are a few shots from a waterspout I got off of Redondo Beach a few years back. This thing had a wall cloud and frequent lightning zapping the water. It was a mini-supercell. The spout came down as the storm moved closer.

Heh, Doug -- your last one remains to this day my favorite structure shot. Were it not for that photo of the white tornado next to the rainbow and the farm that someone took, it'd be my favorite storm photo, period.

Wierdest structure

In the 1980's (not sure the exact date of this) I had come to Kansas.
I was in Overland Park near 103 street and I-435 at the Kansas education Center with the classrooms.
Over the course of an hour or so outside the window (while working in class for certification) I could see something strange outside I still for this day don't know what to think about.

To the North, I could see this tube like structure streaming towards the south. In This sky tube the moisture etc was racing "at a breakneck speed" towards the South somewhere possibly over I-435.

I was in class,so I could not go outside (no rain or lightning) .
But I should have gone outside to look at it and see whatis going on because it was most amazing.

Anyone to venture when this occurred and what you think it was based on your experiences?

Well Im a BIG BIG fan of storm structure, specifically in the upper levels. I find the anvil of monsterous thunderstorms to be one of the great wonders of the world (i.e. 7 wonders of world). Im just a big fan of storms that have reached mammoth proportions in terms of height and sq miles covered. And it doesnt have to be single stand alone storm, it can be a cluster or an overly severe line of storms. I have a bunch of pictures of such phenomena but none are digital and since I do not have a scanner, Im unable to upload them but I plan to put all my photos on a website someday soon.
Here is one of my favorites, while not my own, that gives you an example of what im talking about. This picture is almost exactly the same look the sky had on my way home from Vernon, TX on Loop 820West in Ft. Worth on 6/17. The MCSs was virtually right on my butt. I was doing all I could to keep ahead of it. What was really cool was when the sun immediately hit the top of the anvils as its sorda doing in the pic. The immediate dark shadow it cast on the metroplex was just like the armageddon was coming. Needless to say I was on cloud 9 and having trouble focusing on the road for the storms.
