Great pykl3 replacement for me

@Joshua Tee:
Yep.. it could have given a more meaningful error like "this app requires a newer version of android" .lol.
I had downloaded it to a pc first, then transferred the apk file to the tablet.

I hadn't thought about just how 'old' that tablet is, until I started looking at it

Hey Ely.
Long time user of Wx.
What does your version have that Josh's doesn't.
Reluctant to uninstall since I have it set up just how I want.

from my github readme:

Added in function to enable and disable showing radar. idea/request by Mike T. - very great idea! The radar show/hide function is in menu in tools section.
NOTE: the radar do not disappear or appear auto - you have to tap/move the screen then radar will disappear or appear.

reversed my old warning mod and cleaned up.
updated the code with Joshua many changes and added in zoom setting for conus radar to zoom out to (5-20-19) (Tornado day in OK!)
all watch crash bugs should be gone, hopefully!
updated the code with Joshuas changes with the warnings mod/settings (4-20-19).
updated the code with Joshuas changes (4-13-19).
Now, you can change the radar legend text color in the color settings - it was requested by Mike T.
Userpoints system is working but userpoints update/refresh is not done asap as you delete/add them. you have to wait few mins or close the app to see updated userpoints.
added in internet check on start with option to turn on and off internet check.
get MSL and AGL Beam Heights are available in long press now.
Sun/Moon data are calculated from SunCalc library now - No More loading/parsing from website with broken SSL.
Special Weather Statements Polygons are working! I had to create a list for SPS same way as how spotters are done in wX. you should see matching texts for sps polygons now.
added hail icons and text for showing hail sizes on radar, still testing
added backup urls in getRadarStatus function.
show MPD text within text is done and working.
Conus Radar is being worked on... right now, It is not being plotted right so keep it off in the radar settings
added base spectrum width - thanks to Joshua Tee for doing it first before me!
reading Watch texts within radar is working properly now.
reading MCD texts within radar is working properly now.
added setting for adjusting width of colorbar (color table on side if enabled) and text size too.
heading bug on GPS location is done and it have setting to enable and disable and can set bug size too.
added "displayhold" function as seen in pykl3 because I liked it and it helps very much with "GLThread" crashes!
added option to change default lines on radar in the radar settings.
added "show MCD text" in radar" - It only show last MCD right now.
added TVS Icon - replaced the tvs triangle with tvs.png - need more testing and adjusting - need more badass storms!
due to a bug in location dot size if not following gps, I added a new setting for location icon size
you are able to change location icon size now. I increased the location size to 530 in the settings.
the gps location is loaded by location.png now.
for now, I put in cod.edu url to load up for VAD Wind Profile.
The BackupRestore function now backup everything that are in wX folder even your icons and any files.
added pal files backup/restore function in BackupRestore function
the color table editor is saving txt to /wX/pal/ now
reading from pal files on sdcard are done! I had to redo checkfiles and permissions processing abit.

reverted the vel color table fix due to messed up color table in vel
added checkpalfiles function to check pal files and copy them if any missing * reading from files is not done yet! *
added Extreme Wind warnings (EWW) added conus radar image auto-download in radaractivity, need to figure out how to plot it when the radar map gets zoom out like in pykl3
android permissions are pita! I put in perm library for filechecking for custom icons later.
changed the icon to black and cyan color so one can tell which version wX is running.
added backup/restore settings/pallette like in pykl3
added third button for SRM on radar.
seperate warnings option on radar.. so can enable and disable indidvual warnings on radar. for example, you only want to see tor/svr and you can disable all others.
added SVS (severe weather statement)
added request for sn spotter info in the tap menu in the radar
Spotter Network intergretion for spotters (add your SN key in the settings)
seperate screen on and auto refresh into 2 options. easy!
zoom out bug fixed! obs / spotters / tvs disappear when you zoom out.

@ELY M.:
Interesting read on that link for the switch.
I don't have one, but that'd be cool to do if I did!

@Charlie D:
Seems I remember seeing something for lightning in it already..

It does have this lightning view (see attached)
But I don't see anything for a closer view of the local area. The attached image is as much as I can zoom in on my state (Colorado).
For some reason only TX & FL have their own separate closer views.

Hey Ely.
Couple of suggestions.
Add a 3rd party data server. L3 works fine but L2 is always behind.
Add a temp icon in the notification bar. Something that is GPS based so it's always current. And also expand the options for temp. Currently it's just NWS. Adding Mesowest and Wunderground data would be great with options for selective updates like 1minute, 5 minute, etc.
Just something to think about.
Dave.

The one that's named "app-release.apk".

You may have to go into your device's security settings and turn on "allow installation from unknown sources" before installing.

I don't know if you still check this forum @ELY M. , but
My tablet with this app has for the most part been my 'go to place' for weather info.
Over time some of the options quit working which was ok, but...
Suddenly with the beginning of the new year, it quit alltogether (it still loads, but none of the tiles (except the lightning one) give much more than a blank space). Stuff like 'area forecast discussion' says "none issued by this office recently"

I've tried rebooting the tablet more than once with no luck.

I have a way to look at outgoing connections on my network, and can see it connects(or atleasts attempts to connect - I have no way of seeing if any data is actually transferred) to various noaa.gov / weather.gov sites, plus stuff like spotternetwork.org & .lightningmaps.org

Any ideas on what to look at or try? (short of deleting/re-installing the app, which I'd rather not do)

Adding:
Out of curiosity, I just fired up Pykl3 on my other older tablet, and get nothing on the radar out of it.
Did the NWS maybe make some sorta upgrade (downgrade in reality!) to their systems? that's broken all older apps?

The last thing in this ver of wX that still did work...radar...one of the main things I used it for has quit too (just shows a screen with state/county outlines & roads).

Occasionally my PYKL3 would not load radar data, but most the time it does. I just tried NWS and Allison House and they both worked.

Whenever I've tried in the past couple months, mine wouldn't work, just shows an old radar image from last March.
I would only be using NWS.
Maybe I'll try picking a different radar than my default, just out of curiosity.

Just let you know I am still active working on wX. I am trying to resolve bug that have to do with picking correct hail icons for hail index.

Sadly I gave up on this version when the last parts of it quit working back in the beginning of the year.
& started using the other/original? version that's out there.
