Our guest for the will be Les Lemon, renowned severe storm and radar meteorologist.

Mr. Lemon has 37 years of industry experience with a focus on thunderstorm research, radar meteorology, storm-damage evaluation, thunderstorm and radar meteorology training, weather forecasting, and operational radar technique and signature development. Additionally, he has been an expert witness and a forensic meteorologist. Mr. Lemon conducts Doppler radar applications and interpretation research and has developed and presented Doppler radar data application and interpretation training seminars nationally and internationally. Since 1978, techniques and criteria developed by Mr. Lemon for radar identification and warning on severe local storms (known as "The Lemon Technique") have been used nationally and internationally by the National Weather Service, the Air Weather Service, and the meteorological weather radar community as a whole. His research and discoveries along with that of two colleagues led to the NEXRAD (WSR-88D) program.

Mr. Lemon is a recognized authority in severe thunderstorm and mesocyclone structure and evolution and speaks extensively on these topics. He is known internationally because of his discoveries, "The Lemon Technique," his supercell model, and his weather radar and severe storm applications and interpretation training, as well as design and development of NEXRAD for which he received an AMS award.

The show will air as a RERUN on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 7 pm Central Time (01 UTC Thursday) on highinstability.com. Each show lasts about two hours. Just click on the "Tune In" button. The show will also be simulcast on WRBN.net.

High Instability Guest for March 3, 2010...Dr. William Monfredo, Univ. of Oklahoma

Dr. William Monfredo's biography

William Monfredo, Ph.D. earned his Master of Science degree in Geosciences at Mississippi State University in 1998 and a Doctorate in Environmental Geography at Texas State University in 2002, where he specialized in atmospheric hazards.

After teaching and researching at the University of New Orleans from 2002 through 2006 as a tenure-track professor, both before and after Hurricane Katrina, he worked at Brandon University’s Applied Disaster and Emergency Studies Department in Manitoba, Canada as one of their Assistant Professors. The term appointment there led to a year as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Miami’s Geography and Regional Studies Department in Florida.

Proximity to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes rather than tropical systems led him to central Oklahoma where he teaches and researches about the systematic interrelationships between the atmosphere, land and oceans.

As a hazards researcher and geographer, he is concerned with weather threats to both human life and property. Examples of his recent research include the forecasting, analysis, and damage survey of the Greensburg, Kansas tornado with respect to safety and staying alive in a top-ranked windstorm, as well as work related to Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, he has studied the climatic effects of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). His research has been published in geography, weather, and disaster journals, such as Physical Geography, Weather, National Weather Digest and Journal of Emergency Management, among others.

Doug's Raflik's interest in artist and concert photography started over ten years ago when he first took pictures of the bands Slaughter and Vixen. For two months out of the year he is a storm chaser - his amazing pictures of tornados and storms have been published in many national publications and wire services. Many Saturdays you will find him hard at work with his professional wedding photography, or his other portraiture work, but it's the essence of the musician or singer that he captures the best with his camera. Doug's music-related photography has appeared on many magazine covers, press kits, posters, flyers and most recently the award winning flash web site of Myth Nightclub. He has photographed for major national acts such as Nickelback, Billy Idol, Seether, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, FireHouse, and Jonny Lang. Many regional artists in Minnesota and Wisconsin have used his services for marketing materials - press kits, posters and web sites.

A band or artist has music to put out to the masses, but they have to start with professional studio and concert photography to market themselves. Check out Doug Raflik Photography today!

From "Tribute to Al Moller" by Chuck Doswell

"...Al distinguished himself in the technical skills of weather forecasting, he also has set an incredibly high standard for contributions to society with those skills. Clearly, the residents of North Texas have benefitted the most, but this by no means represents the limit of his impact (and recognition), which extends nationally and even internationally. He's the living embodiment of what it means to be a Science Operations Officer, a Lead Forecaster, and especially a Warning Coordination Meteorologist (all rolled into one)..."
