• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

    I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

    For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

    From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

Fire in SW Amarillo

At about 3:00 pm a large fire started in SW Amarillo. As it is right now, one mobile home has been confirmed to be destroyed. The TX forest service has a helicopter releasing retardant to try to contain the fire. Roads around the SW part of the city are closed down for obvious reasons. Winds are sustained here at 37mph (gusting to 50) with a Td of 8 which gives us a RH of about 6%. Temp is 83 so this isn't helping much either.


EDIT: 3 structures have now been destroyed.

Yea another bad in the southern plains. I was noticing per Mesonet that a few stations topped out just over 100F between 4 and 5pm CDT with Td's around 15F. OK/TX need rain, hopefully a few good soakings come in the next few weeks. At this point I'm down to hoping, because GFS long range doesnt show any sort of change in this longwave ridge over the country.
 
Maybe Jason or Jay can update us. From I could gather, parts of SW Amarillo were evactuated and several structures were lost. I lived out just west of this area south of Bushland for a while myself. There evidently was another fire just east of Bushland, which is on I40 west of Amarillo.

There was another huge fire burning out of control in SE Donley County, which is Carendon, NW of Childress. I understand it was threatening a feed yard and some homes as well.

There wereTWO fires in Lubbock that claimed a couple of homes.

And yet another fire west of Lubbock in Hockley County who has already been subjected to several LARGE wildfires this year!
