Greetings all,
Dave Hoadley tells me that he provided a 41 page handout (at his expense) for the '08 National Convention. He says that a chaser offered to put it online (I'm assuming as a PDF) but that hasn't been done yet. His topic was "Forecasting for Non-meteorologists" and he suggests using it as a bridge between little or no understanding and the real terms/language used in by meteorological forecasters.

I'd love to get a copy of that. Dave was on his way out the door for his trip to the Plains, but said I should track one of those down.

So here's my request: I'm looking for a kind soul to share a copy (or photocopy) of the paper handout Dave provided. OR if you have turned it into a PDF, a download link. I can also turn a paper copy into a PDF for others to download. I've got access to an automatic scanner that makes that process very painless.

PM me if you'd like to provide a copy and we can work out details.

Thanks to all, and thanks to David Hoadley for providing his techniques and sharing them at the Nat'l Convention.

Hoadley forecasting copies

All:

My apologies for not getting this done earlier.. I've scanned Dave's document, and I'm hoping it will be up on Chaserconvention.com website soon for downloading.

Thanks for everyone's patience!

Tim

Awesome guys! Thanks to David Hoadley, for preparing the original handout and making it available for public distribution like this; to Tim Samaras for doing the conversion to PDF; and David Drummond for making it prominently available on the chaserconvention.com web site.

While we're talking about the Hoadley papers, I'd really love a PDF of all the other stops he talked about in his other talk at the convention. There weren't enough copies to go around, and I didn't manage to get one. I'd love to have some of those locations around the plains to stop and have a look at the pioneer life on a slow chase day... Tim or anyone have a PDF of that handout?

Thanks,
John

Via email: David Hoadley tells me that he caught a few errors in the handout that need correcting: I'm passing them along here and also PMing David Drummond so he can note them on the chaserconvention.com site.

In a few days we should be able to have a CORRECTED all-in-one PDF file for David to put up on the chaserconvention site (replacing the files with the minor errors).

Corrections from D. Hoadley:
"TORNADO FORECASTING FROM SURFACE DATA" (4 pages)
In the second sentence to "2. MOIST BOUNDARIES, A.", change "6" to "7", so it reads---
"...place 7 midway between the dryline nose and that intersection."
In the last sentence to "3. PSEUDO LOW", change "westerly" to "easterly" and delete "open-", so it reads---
"If the pseudo low is not clearly indicated or is entirely easterly of an intersect with 2.B., use the dominant low's center as the pseudo low."
- - - - - - - - - -
"TORNADO FORECASTING FROM SURFACE DATA" (33 pages)
Page 9 under "WHAT IT SAYS": Change "7" to "6".
Page 10 under "WHAT IT SAYS": Change the last sentence to read "(b) if a dryline, choose the one whose lowest pressure isobar is closest to its nose."
Page 20 under "WHAT IT SAYS": Change the last sentence to read: "If the pseudo low is not clearly indicated or entirely easterly of an intersect with 2.B., use the dominant low's center as the pseudo low."

After chase season is over and I have more time, if Dave is ok with it, I might see about converting the whole thing to web pages for easier use online as well.

Thanks for posting that pdf

Wow very nice . Thanks to Mr. Hoadly for letting us view his real nice stuff. Very nice as pdf but a website would be easy to do too.
