• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

I received my 5D on Friday {{Happy Dance!}}. All I can say is wow. It's the difference between eating a chuck steak and kobe beef. Love it.

I've posted a full-res large JPG here:

It's a big file, so be aware. This photo was shot quickly, outside my window with my 17-40mm. Unedited except for a little levels tweak. No sharpening. F9. Love it.

The software upgrades appear to have fixed the 5D Mark II problems so I ordered one. It arrives Tuesday along with the battery pack. Adorama only had bodies in stock for one day last weekend, otherwise I would still be waiting.

I've decided to keep my 1.6X crop body though. Any lens on that camera is immediately a 60% telephoto. For example, my 70-200 becomes a 320 and with a 1.4X converter I get 448mm. Beats buying a 400mm lens. Also there are a few places I go where I would not take a more expensive camera.

I was tempted to buy a used Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II (16.7 MP) instead of the New 5D Mark II though. It's a heck of a camera and now selling for less than $2500. Problem with these used bodies from Adoroma ....we don't know the shutter count, only the physical condition, so it's risky.

That is a great video, and has actually been out since before the camera was released. My understanding of the video is that it suffers from a few limitations/problems:

* Rolling Shutter effect when scrolling with the camera
* Max of 12 minutes video?

Still, a pretty neat feature, and it offers some really awesome low light opportuniites if you have a good lens!

I'm now using 5D Mark II cameras instead of my older XLH1s. The video is truly amazing, and compares to that of the RED cameras and prices of $25k or more !!!

I would recommend getting the Cineform NeoScene software, for conversion of the raw .MOV files out of the camera, into an .AVI file for better workflow. Well, at least if you're using Sony Vegas 9.0 64bit as I am.

Obviously, Adobe Premier methods will allow for conversion of the original .MOV files as well. I can shoot HD video with my old camera and compare it to the 5D Mark II, and the older HDV cameras are not even close!

Take a look at this amazing short film by Robin Risser... http://vimeo.com/5410762?hd=1

In that really nice work by Risser; my question to him would be - which lenses was he using?
And which filters?

V E R Y nice work. Detail and clarity was astounding...Color was nothing short of spot-on.
That 5D Mk II has really proven to be an amazing camera!
