It's official !!!
Canon's new EOS 5D Mk II

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=17662

Shoots HD video as well !?!

No price as of yet - wonder if anyone will be able to afford it ???

Yes, it is impressive. It also has LiveView - ubercool.
A full-frame camera that can use both EF and EF-S lenses.
WOW!!
That means that my 10-22mm lens will have a USABLE 10mm ultra-ultra wide angle on the wide end.
That is just too cool.

I'll bet they want at least three grand for it - I haven't seen any published price yet.
B&H will probably be the first to have it - Ill bet.

Makes sense why SanDisk came out with a 32Gb memory card the other day.
If this thing can use my EF-S lens and do great video - then Canon read my mind!
LOL!!!

EDIT:
"..The Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera is compatible with Canon EF lenses and is scheduled for delivery by the end of November. The EOS 5D Mark II will be sold in a body-only configuration at an estimated retail price of $2,6993. It will additionally be offered in a kit version with Canon's EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens at an estimated retail price of $3,4994..."

Full frames won't do the EF-S lenses without vignetting, unfortunately. Although - they will work, just not all the way zoomed out, and sometimes the electronics respond differently.

This camera does look awesome, and I like the HD video capture capability!
Quite a unique feature when you might be shooting stills and suddenly desire to have a video clip as well.

I'm guessing $3999 initial price.... but I'm sure hoping cheaper !! :-)

Well, I stand corrected !!! According to DP Review, body only price is $2699.
Count me in !!!!!

Billy:

I figured the vignetting would be a problem.
But the new DIGIC IV chip onboard makes lens corrections (like vignetting, barrel distortion, etc...) thru a pre-programmed list that can be set up for the lens you put on.
I wonder if this thing can walk my dog for me - too...

Man alive, with a price like this, people will have to start selling off other equipment to buy this one. Watch for great sell off deals showing up soon here.
Nice camera though, but think I wil have to stick with my Nikons

Excellent... been waiting since spring on this camera!!!

On the EF/EF-S compatibility - I'm wondering if this is a typo. There is a different mount for EF-S - I'd be suprised if this were actually true. I believe the dpreview said that it wasn't compatible as well, which only makes sense.

I realize that, but you've got to remember how big Canon is, and the group of folks that built the camera aren't the same group that build the web pages. :D

Go back and click on that link Billy posted... forget what you see on the front page. Click on the SPECIFICATIONS tab and then read what you see beside lens mount.

Still not convinced? Go here: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/eos5dm2/04.html#01 Notice the asterisk in the first sentence, then read the notation below the article - "* Except EF-S lenses"

FWIW, dpreview isn't just 'some review site'. lol.. they often have their hands on these things before you even know about them.

26 megabyte raw files. Damn. Lets see, my 12.1 mp images as 16 bit tiffs are about 70 megs. So these must be what, 120 megs? Those suckers chew through hard drive space fast. I'm already finding it hard to get used to the 12.1 mp files. I'd drive myself nuts with stepping up to 21 mp. If I had the money I would though.

I can't believe even that is only 12x18 at 300 dpi. It'd be fun to have this and the XSi and res up the XSi images to the same res and compare. Of course you'd always lose if you were to res up the 21 mp file as well and compare. Still, it'd be interesting to see the difference.

It's kind of fun to take a file from the camera you have and res it up to that res and see just how big that is. At monitor res(72 dpi) that is 52 x 78 inches, lol.

Well, I'm thankful for cheaper and larger capacity hard drives.
My bro just bought a 500Gb hard drive a month ago for sixty bucks.
It also makes sense that SanDisk came out with that 32gb memory.

Of course, the speed of procesing these larger files in PS and PSP are going to take the hit - unless you run some serious sized/fast RAM in your desktop.
So, things have to change..
>Sigh< Time to upgrade again?
