That press conference was surreal, coming across as a missing scene from 'Dr. Strangelove.' Combined with your remark about "you know you've had a bad day...", my black sense of humor came to light.

Not at all. No offense taken. My comment came from the same black humor place, but was fueled by disdain directed at the politicians and the obfuscators.

Glad to hear the fire is out so quickly. Now wonder if the radiation stream from No. 4 also is curtailed?

Back to Reactor Unit No. 2. The same TEMCO press conference where they said "internal pressure is 1 atmosphere" someone also added that the pressure gauge may be defective. That would seem much more of a possibility if the reading did not come after the audible sound from inside that alarmed them. Perhaps they don't want to say it is breached until they can definitively eliminate all other possibilities.

BBC finally mentions No. 2 again
The BBC's Chris Hogg in Tokyo says that Japan's nuclear safety agency says it suspects the explosion may have damaged the vessel that holds the number two reactor. That would make it a more serious incident than the two previous explosions at Fukushima that were thought just to have damaged the buildings that housed the reactors.

The predicted rain may be a very good thing in that it will wash out any grunge before it gets too far. (Of course this will intensify local fallout significantly!)

Fortunately, the plant is some distance from truly large population centers.
