8/11/07 NOW: MN/WI

Initiation is now underway in central-south central Minnesota within a very unstable environment. The SVR warned cell in Wright Co., 50 miles NW of Minneapolis, has been slowly strengthening and is beginning to show signs of rotation. There is also a developing Cu field in southwest MN which, if it can develop, will move into a more favorably sheared atmosphere with 0-3 km SRH up to 300 m2/s2.

Currently sitting in Dodge county, MN. Sitting under a cu field here, most with rather mushy vertical development. Not really sure what to expect yet. Temps have been flirting with the 90 mark all day, now around 85 here. Cap is still quite strong here in s MN, might head over to I-35 soon. Send me a pm if you can nowcast Chad. Some better towers going up to the north as I write this.

NOW - SW MN

Unfortunately, subsidence over the SRN half of MN appears to have suppressed convection in S and SW MN so far this afternoon despite little or no remaining CIN along with decent SFC moisture convergence. WV imagery does show a zone of assent just now entering SW MN. Perhaps convection is still possible within the hour despite cooling SFC temperatures. A persistent CU field between Sanborn and New Ulm, at the intersection of an old OFB and the SFC trough/CF, has produced a few failed attempts at convection, and this may be the area to watch as large scale assent approaches from the SW.
