I arrived today at Newark airport, it was warm and moist air, good stuff for storms, and sure a storm came by, and I took these pix ( slideshow) from top floor of Holiday Inn at Newark airport. Saw no lightning but some nice dark lowerings. A good omen .

Went out on a short local chase and was able to get on a mini supercell embedded in the grungy mess along the boundary in E KS. The base was spinning like crazy and even put down a nice funnel that came down about half way before lifting back up into the wall cloud just west of Gardner, KS. Below is a video still of the funnel.

6/02/09:KS

Was about to head out the door for my target just SE of Dodge City. When I got a call that my youngest son had collapsed at his work place at a grain elevator in Kalvesta, and was being rushed to Garden City. So off to Garden as fast as I could go, thank God he will be all right. While in the emergency room with him my daughter calls to let us know that a tornado warning was going out for Ford Co. for a tornado 6 miles SW of Dodge and the sirens were sounding. Shortly after my son was released and we headed back to Dodge Saw a cell moving West, SE of Garden had a lot of motion under the rain free base and developed a wall cloud looked a little strange with the Westward movement. Here are a few pictures of that cell and Dow 6 at Jetmore.

Several severe thunderstorm warnings in and near the KPAH region. Mostly small hail and wind. Several storms produced intense lightning. We reached 90 degrees today!

I chased the SVR/TOR warned storms that moved through Adams and Brown County, IL with Chris Fitzgerald. The storm exhibited nice structure and produced a rotating wall cloud and at least one funnel cloud between Mt. Sterling and Versailles, Illinois.

Due to the hilly and wooded nature of this terrain near the Illinois River, I was unable to confirm any touchdowns, although LE reported a TOR near Mt. Sterling. This wasn't too bad for a backyard chase.

While out on my way to chase S/W of Dodge City I caught a cell at Pratt Ks and turned around and chased it as it became SVR/TOR warned. Chased it all the way to west of Goddard where it fell apart.
Some of the V2 Crew were on the same cell.

Broke away from the V2 armada to chase with our renegade probe group. We followed a storm that developed near Pratt, KS that became severe and tornado warned. The storm had great structure with clear slot, wall cloud, and rotation (both cyclonic and anticyclonic). The storm evolved into an HP. Had very close lightning bolts - could see the plasma beads. A great chase. TM

Decided to leave early from Wichita, KS to catch up with an outflow boundary that established itself nicely between Amarillo and Lubbock. Took highway 83 down from Childress and eventually intercepted the Sweetwater TX supercell west of Abilene. Saw an inflow tail and briefly a wall cloud before the meso became imbedded and went to a predominantly outflow mode. There was a fantastic CG lightning show later on this evening including a very bright double rainbow. All and all, it was a good chase.

Once again, C IL was a good place to be. Around 3PM or so, we had a really nice classic sup with textbook structure develop in Macon county and mature as it moved into Piatt along US36. It was IMO, the best looking storm i've seen on radar all year. I had errands plus it was too far off to even think about following so am curious if anyone might have caught it? At the time of the shot from N of Decatur, it was out around Tuscola.

A little later when the main short wave arrived, storms exploded along a warm front lifting across the I-72 corridor and all developed curious lowerings with weak rotation. Unfortunately they would quickly shelf out before being obliterated by outflow. More including a couple time lapse clips on my BLOG.

Chased West Texas, even got on a very promising storm on Garza county with rotation and a hook for a while, but couldn't get to the area of interest due to road networks around Lake Alan Henry (or rather the lack of them).

After a mostly non-eventful chase, and some great Mexican food in San Angelo, it was a little non-severe cluster of storms near Big Spring that provided the prize for the day.

I didnt leave my house till around 4 as I was replacing my spark plugs, but I easily caught up to the storms moving across the eastern TX Panhandle by about 4:30. Got to see a nice shelf cloud makes its way through Wheeler before the storm started to weaken. I had started to forget how much fun it is just to be near a thunderstorm, even one thats not doing much.

MSU team played the cold front on this day. Not able to make it to the boundary in and around Abilene Tx. due to a short stop in Greensburg, Kansas. We intercepted an impressive cell in the town of Canadian, Texas. This cell had a large broad rotating wall cloud that gave us everything but a tube. Such an amazing compact and powerful storm. We got hung up in a semi-impressive core in the town and this gave us a crash course on how to evade a core with 3 vans and 24 students. I loved it! Its a rush to me to get swallowed by the core. It was a successful chase day. We drove in from Concordia after intercepting the Norton County Tor warned cell the night before.
