6/17/09: NOW NE/KS/IA/MO/SD/TN/KY

Tornado emergency issued for Aurora.

EDIT - As I was posting this, two posts have indicated that it lifted just before Aurora. Let's hope this is the case, and that it does not re-form until it is past the town.

Reports of damage west of Aurora. Storm appears to be recycling east of Aurora near Hampton.

MN multiple vortex tornado

Peggy W. (twistersister!) and Brad Nelson filmed a multiple vortex tornado near Austin, MN this evening! It was sitting over a farm house for a while and unfortunately destroyed the home and the trees around the area.

There were other small, brief touchdowns with large condensation funnels that luckily didn't hit anything (from what they were seeing).

They are heading back now. Will post photos later.

Thankfully, the KUEX radar indicates that the ex Aurora cell is winding down - VIL's are now just 45 kg/m2.

Strange as it may seem, I would now like to see some sort of radar indicated outflow from this cell.

Well I just got back from being on the road (chasing the southern cell of the group your referring to) and all the reports Im hearing around here is that the large tornado actually went through part of Austin and have caused some injuries. Thats all I know at the moment, not sure if its true yet or not but I would imagine it is.

EDIT: Here is a link to the only thing I've heard about this other than some reports on the radio on my way back.

Chased with Tyler Burg. Early on we got on the odel storm after it became tor warned, incredible structure, but we did not observe any tornadoes, however there was a brief dust spin up west of Oketo. After a stop for lunch in Maryville, we headed west for new development. At first we didn't think we could make it to the hastings/grand island cell, so we headed for the columbus cell further north. After seeing that storm turn to crap we decided to make a run for the grand island storm near dark. As soon as we arrived we saw an incredible meso and 15 minutes later we witnessed a tornado lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes, but can't confirm when it ended.

Amazing images to come.
