Storms beginning to fire in and around Iowa. Blotches being reported as we speak!

One "blotch" to the ENE of Waterloo, about the size of an entire county. Reflectivity up to 65DBZ in the center, and has intensified and pulled together as one large cell. Looks like its tracking due east. probalby wouldnt be worth it for me to head that way though, wish i woulda got off work earlier

Save your gas ya'll...unless you want a new windshield. Those storms are elevated, developed above the boundary layer, and will most likely be putting out golf balls at the max. Beginning of next week is the big show. I'm thinking moderate risks from SW TX up to ND. Have a ball and I'll be a long distance nowcaster thanks to Al Gore and the Internet.

Just out of interest...The DTX Convective Init model initiates convection in western IA around 23Z - http://www.crh.noaa.gov/dtx/?page=cidisplay I guess we will see how it does...

The model also appears to miss the convection located across northeast IA/WI/IL, so its not perfect...
