5/25/08 NOW: WI/MN/IA/IL/KS/NE/OK

the Waterloo ASOS had a 63G93mph wind as the tornado moved by. Taking a nearly identical track to the 5-11-2000 tornado that struck Dunkerton (and has again).

We have been a few miles behind this thing without getting a shot of it yet, just got slowed down near Dunkerton by decent damage to a farmhouse. Downed power poles, outbuildings destroyed, trees shredded. Seemed the house didnt take much of a hit. Now heading east out of Fairbank trying to catch back up near Oelwein.

Look like that supercell is still impressive on radar although rotation seems to have lessened for the moment..as expected SPC issued Tornado watch for WI..as this cluster will probably move long the S.WI/ N. IL Border counties..in the next couple hours..With darkness coming soon looks like it will be a lightning-show soon too.. I may head out from RFD to Beloit WI area just for a show and a spot but not much for night chasing around here..

As good as the last couple days have been to me, not sure today could get much worse. It started out well, I filmed two tornadoes... but from there DOWNHILL, First I lost my power steering, checked and its a loose hose, so I was simply trying to get out of the rain and get somewhere I could at least attempt to fix it, but no, now I got a freaking flat tire. It just so happened I'm broke down just south of La Crosse where there are training storms with big hail and Tornado warnings, to top it off its late Sunday no where to fix a tire and hose, and tomorrow is Memorial Day, YAY!!!
For those still chasing this storm looks decent, the rotation is embedded in rain. If anyone knows where I can get a hose put back on near Dodge please let me know!!

Just got a report in to the office here of 7 fatalities with the Waterloo/Parkersburg, IA tornado.

Getting a squeeze play here in Wichita with storms north from Hutch to Hesston. Also of note is the outflow boundary from these storms in northern Sedgewick Co. Also tracking the thin line N/S line of storms west of Kingman & Harper. Ongoing debate here in the office wether 'Wichita wall' will eat things up as storms enter town.
Not really getting a whole lot of hail reports out it but def getting some 60-70 winds out of the line up north.

Winds near 80 MPH is occuring with the line of storms moving into Des Moines. Looks to be a long night here in Iowa.

We are just leaving Parkersburg now as they are still evacuating everyone, we couldnt even fully get in the town to help as its unsafe right now due to major gas leaks and power lines everywhere. Anyway, just letting anyone know that may be heading to assist or anything else they will be setting things back up again at 6 am tomorrow.

A 78 MPH wind gust was measured witht he line of storms moving into Jasper and Marium Counties. NWS has in thier wording "Exstensive damage is likely...Seek shelter in a sturdy building" and this line of storms capable of destructive 80 MPH winds. I wonder if they will sound the tornado sirens for this line of storms just because the winds are so bad?

EDIT: A 85 MPH wind gust was reported in Winterset.

3-4 tornado warnings in east central Iowa now. The bow echo miving out of Poweshiek County is still capable of destructive 80 MPH winds and doplar radar is indicating a tornado on the ground with this storm. Widespread power damage has been reported in central Iowa from this bow echo. I had winds of 60-70 MPH here in Newton. No damage around my house.

Trained weather spotters are reporting a tornado in Iowa County Iowa near interstate I-80 which is not good as the interstate has alot of traffic and at night tornadoes are hard to see. Radar is showing a very dangerous line of storms moving east.
