SIREN ACTIVATION IS SUGGESTED.

Not many people live out there but it's pretty rare to see a warning message encourage siren activation for a non-tornadic storm. Must be a rough one....

Some of the severe tstorm warnings in OK also had that text. The "siren activation is suggested" seems to be included for those severe storms that likely have winds >75mph. This makes sense, since winds in the 80+ range can cause significant structural damage, moreso than a weak tornado in some cases.

Jeff,

Makes perfect sense. IMO, it's always best to error on the side of caution when dealing with hurricane force winds. Agree widespread winds of this magnitude can certain wreak as much, if not more, havoc than a weak tornado.

Reading a Severe Weathe Statement it mentioned:

AT 439 PM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR AND STORM SPOTTERS WERE
TRACKING A VERY DANGEROUS TORNADO NEAR VIAN. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED 2 MILES
EAST OF VIAN...MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 25 MPH.

Kanani and I were on the Akron storm until it moved into Kansas and I can say we could hear a numbr of spotters and chasers talking on the ham talking about this tornado and that tornado while all the while they were gustnados from this outflow dominated storm. We heard one talk about how incredible the tornado was when we were about 300 yrds from this obvious gustnado. Seems some spotter retraining is in order.

We did catch a brief 1-2 minute tornado just before sunset about 10 miles south of Sheridan Lake. Will post report soon.
