Thought I'd start a now thread as a discrete cell has exploded south of Wichita, KS - along with the ongoing convention to the east in AR.

The KS cell already has a nice couplet and a hook forming. I hope someone is on that one. Per RUC analysis, it's formed right northeast of the surface low in due easterly surface winds and is headed into a tongue of 1500 to 2500 J/KG CAPE, low to mid 60s dewpoints, and very high helicity.

:edit: HOLY MOLY, another discrete cell has a-bombed east of the initial cell within 20 minutes. Explosive development looks to be forming into a broken line of supercells along I35 near Salina and to the south. The cell east of the Arkansas City cell wasn't there 20 minutes ago and is already a golfball producer.

Storms are rapidly developing to the west and nw of McAlester, OK at the moment. I'm sitting in Savanna right now, going to wait a few minutes to see if anything starts to pop south down the line.

4 mi. north of Independence, KS: After a brief RFD and some radar-indicated rotation about 15 min. ago, the storms have lined out and no rotation indicated by radar.

The original cell that developed near Wellington and moved east along U.S. 166 has weakened considerably both on radar and visually.

Sitting about 10 mi. north of Parsons ... there's no way I want to core this thing as it is right now. Already in hail and crazy rain. Will have to wait for it to move a bit more east before heading further south ... what a beast!

EDIT - video stream seems to be working for now -

Look out Jonesboro, AR area. Nice supercell getting an appendage. Mid level rotation on it. Should be there in an hour (or thereabouts).

It's had that look for an hour though now with just some minor hail reports... The environment up there still isn't very surface based.

I was just on that storm that is headed toward Jonesboro and got there a little too late to see any hail (thanks to bad road options). I did see the hail shaft and the updraft briefly as it moved east, but I have to say that it wasn't that impressive for the 10 seconds I was able to see it from the north side - it had that kind of "soft" look from that angle. There was hail reported up to 1.75" from the southern end of Izard Co., though.

Edit: That storm is now tornado warned for northern Jackson Co.
Edit again: Live stream from KAIT, Jonesboro here.

Wow, looks like the most interesting storm right now is straddling the Kansas-Oklahoma border and about to move right into Missouri...towards the Joplin area. Appears to have some decent rotation on it, although I'm not positive it had a confirmed tornado within the last 10 minutes.

AJL

EDIT: just read some of the SVS's...did have a confirmed tornado very recently.
EDIT2: Spotternetwork report of a large wedge on that storm.

cells firing all over the place

Storms with possibly hail and more heading toward Leavenworth, south from Ottawa towards the line and just south of Ottawa heading toward I-35.
I will head towards #3.
Good luck

Based on the latest reports, that tornado that hit north of Neosho was a bad one. Sounds like some pretty substantial damage. I certianly hope everyone in that area is alright.

EDIT: Apparently sheet metal is falling from the sky in Barry County MO.

Sitting in Springfield, MO waiting for the storm to come. Just now starting to rain (more like sprinkles) some. Local news is reporting there was debris being blown into neighboring counties from the storm out near Joplin (I think it was Joplin, may have been the one near Carthage). Hwy 71 is closed near Neosho and large bulding destroyed. House collapsed and possibly person trapped inside in Neosho proper. And they did mention your sheet metal falling from the sky. Did just get really dark here as the leading edge enters Greene County, MO. Really not much going on here as of yet aside from lightning hitting the station I am watching. lol.
