My friend and I are currently at the rest area near Dows on I-35 in Iowa looking at data. Have been watching the cumulus field grow off to our north and west. The cap is holding things back for now, hoping for it to break within an hour or a little more. LCL's are higher than I'd like from the large temperature/dewpoint spread, but we are going to try to get on the cells that fire first and see if they can produce any brief spin-ups. Not likely, but we're going to give it a shot.

Getting ready to head a little farther north towards Mason City. (Sure wish I had wireless internet on the road... ;))

Initiation is occuring along the Mississippi river cross the MN/WI border and a cell just north of Mason City is going up.

Cumlus Line Extending into NE

I was looking at the VIS SAT and it clearly shows a extending line of cumulus clouds going from WI down thru IA and getting into SE NE now. I just stepped out on my front porch and I can see clouds going up right in my neighborhood in Lincoln, NE. I will just pull up a chair and watch the storms grow. No need to storm chase here!! :D LJK

EDIT: SPC just issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Iowa, Wisconsin and just the SE corner of Minnesota. NE will be missing out on the action tonight. :(

Looks like an embedded supercell is developing in the line in Buffalo County, WI. Rotation isn't that strong at the moment, but there is an echo overhang and something of a hook echo appearing on GR2 from ARX

My bro and I are on Hwy 36 in north central KS heading towards the new storms forming to the West. Just dropped off the SVR warned storm and saw some mid-level rotation but everything is going up on the cool side of the front and is pretty elevated. Not seeing much of a tornado threat but probably some cool structure if one of these new updrafts can get discrete.
