4/20/04 NOW: IL/IN

Here is a compilation of chaser reports and pix/vid from last Tuesday's outbreak (as well as NWS summaries and some media/misc links). If anyone has additional info, please let me know. I am also assembling meteorological data for archiving and a case study discussion. I have already heard that there will be formal case studies for publication in meteorology journals and obviously numerous informal ones.

Granville/Utica Illinois tornadoes

I've just posted new pictures of the Granville/Utica tornadoes on my website. Not much of a chase reporter but just have to say that ham radio saved lives yesterday. Storms look a lot different when aimed at your friends, family, and loved ones. I'm still in awe over this storm.

Earlier in this thread I asked for a met to give a reasoned discussion of why tornadoes exploded along the warm front when conditions did not seem to warrant such an outbreak. Gil Sebenste of NIU Weather gave an excellent answer in his discussion for today. Scroll down to see how events can "turn on a dime" and why it is so difficult to forecast severe weather even a few hours, let alone days, ahead. Answered my questions.

Gil is da man! I've had many opportunities to talk with him. He even chased on 08/28/90! (Plainfield, IL F5)
