As promised, here is further information regarding the 12th Annual High Plains Conference being held in Hays, KS on September 4-5, 2008. The keynote speakers have been confirmed and are as follows:

Eve Gruntfest, University of Colorado -- Societal Impacts of Weather and Forecasting
Greg Carbin, Storm Prediction Center -- High Plains Severe Weather
Mary Ann Cooper, MD, University of Chicago -- Physiological Impacts of Lightning on Survivors (banquet speaker)
Pat Market, University of Missouri -- High Plains Winter Weather

For more information regarding the conference, including online registration, click here. Please note there is both an undergraduate and graduate presentation competition with the winner in each category receiving a check for $400. The conference is very laid back so it's a perfect setting for anyone presenting for the first time. Information regarding how to submit an abstract can be found here.

Please note that anyone interested in attending is certainly more than welcome. By no means do you have to be a met student or work as a met. You don't have to be a member of AMS or NWA either. We hope that all who are interested will attend.

The 12th High Plains Conference is two weeks away and the schedule of talks has been finalized. To see the agenda, please click here.

We had a tremendous response to the call for papers and will have a wide range of topics from case studies of recent severe weather events to talks focusing on how weather impacts individuals and society in general. If you plan on attending but have not registered, please click here. We would ask that you register online by August 29th though you may also register in person at the conference if you prefer. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a message. We would love to see you there!!
