EF1
A narrow axis of instability in the tidewater of VA and NC. A line of severe storms now moving through SE VA. AKQ didn't have any mention of thunder or even high pops this evening. SPC has the no tstrm graphic up.
Even more interesting is the line of "severe showers" in S NC. I remember an event like this here in Nova about 10 years ago. Very sudden, strong winds with just a few rain drops via evaporational cooling and downward transport. Interesting custom warning text from Moorehead City:
...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 615 PM EST
FOR NORTHERN ONSLOW...LENOIR...JONES AND DUPLIN COUNTIES...
AT 539 PM EST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO
INDICATE A CLUSTER OF SEVERE SHOWERS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING
WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THESE SHOWERS WERE LOCATED OVER DUPLIN
AND LENOIR COUNTIES. LITTLE OR NO LIGHTNING IS EXPECTED WITH THESE
SHOWERS...BUT THEY DO CONTAIN DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND BRIEF
DOWNPOURS. THE SHOWERS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AROUND 70 MPH.
THESE SHOWERS HAVE HAD A HISTORY OF PRODUCING WIND DAMAGE ACROSS
CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA EARLIER THIS EVENING. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE
A STURDY STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS!
