Windshield Wipers

Yes...we, in previous threads have mentioned...stay away from RainX washer fluid. The traditional hand whipped on product is good, but the washer fluid is bad. I also think I remember some folks saying to stay away from the anti-fog stuff by RainX that you are suppose to use on the inside of the windows. Apparently it causes more problems than it fixes.

I can attest to the fact, I tried using the anti-fog wipes for some winter storms I documented this past winter. Made things worse actually. I only used them once and didnt even bother using the rest of the package.

My wife's car has had on the Napa/Trico Neoform (Same as Rain-x Latitude) for over a year now, and they still work great. And here in Clovis they don't get used too often and sit in the hot sun quite a bit. I've got the Napa/Trico exact-fits, which are more of a standard blade, and have had nothing but great service from those. I do know that Napa is having a mail-in rebate on wipers through the middle of May, $5 for exact-fit's and $15 for neoforms. Oh, we both use rain-x on the windshields all the time.

Windshield wipers..., windshield wipers..... ? What's all this talk about something as petty and useless as windshield wipers.

REAL chasers don't have windshield wipers, they've already just kicked out the entire windshield and saved the hail the trouble of doing it later and commune with nature.

Windshield wipers, huh, what a bunch of sissy's.

I've been impressed with the Valeo wipers ordered from TireRack. I just recently replaced them, have gotten three years of service from the previous set. They are a bit pricey. However, Tire Rack often runs a buy one, get the other blade free promotion.

I use the cheap anco's and replace annually if not more often. I also just use regular rain-x. I cant stress this enough, always keep spares in your vehicle, even if they are the old ones. I was chasing in western missouri a few years back and got stuck in a hailcore, the suv in front of me lost his windshield wiper and it flew back into my wiper and broke it also, i didnt have a replacement then and it was a good lesson learned. Not being able to see in driving rain and hail that day, made me miss a nice tornado.

I use the Anco wiper blades. Cheap and replace them right before chase season. Also I'm using the RainX foam window cleaner/water repellent. It has worked really well so far. The water beads up nicely and will just come off at around 50mph or higher.

I like to buy the cheap blades and replace them at least once a year. Sometimes I do it in the fall as well. If they are really worn out. It's a regular maintenance thing like fuel and air filters.

Ive been using Bosch blades and love them. Nice streak free wipes everytime and they are super quiet. One thing I can't stand in chaser video is the sound of screeching wipers. Ive been using them for years and they still work great.

Last May I wound up switching to Bosch wipers and Aquapel. I have been more than impressed. The wipers are VERY quiet and leave no streaking and the Aquapel does what I think is a much better job than the Rain-X especially in the fact there are none of those nasty Halo rings I used to get with the Rain-X. I am about to put another coating of the Aquapel on for the next round so 4+ months seems pretty good to me, it is still working good, but can use a touch up. I don't even think I used my wipersfor the entire month of May with the exception of really heavy downpours.

I guess there's no winner. I did read a review saying that they tend to wear out in 6-12 months so cheap seems to be good. Might try the Michelin ones, we'll see. I also use the rain X bug/rain repellent fluid.

Have you tried the Bosch ICON series wipers? I had a pair on my Mustang GT that lasted 18 months and they are great wipers, loved them!!!

but at $20 a blade they are expensive!

Been 1.5 years +/- since I bought my car and they had the RainX clunky style wipers on them and they have held up fine.

I use standard/generic wiper fluid.
I Only put two application sessions (2 coats each time) of RainX both in May (2009 and 2010).
I I've driven ~15,000 miles on this car
I drove extensively during 2009/2010 winter season in DC (snowmaggedon) with three large winter storms (1-Decemeber 2 & 3-February).

At the moment...I see no need to replace the wipers. I will have back-ups in the car during the winter, but I doubt they'll be a problem. Last time I had wipers last this long it was on my S-10 Xtreme (yes...GM does make good vehicles). They were going on four years. Truck went away before I replaced them.

I'm with you Adam. I've been using the Bosch blades for 3 seasons now. You can drive through a farm pond and still see. They don't streak, they're quiet, and they last a long time. They are expensive, $25.00 per blade at Autozone, but worth the money to keep the streaks and noise out of my stream and video. I replace mine every March, whether they need it or not.

I got caught in a nasty winter storm last year, and the OEM original stock wipers kept freezing solid as a rock, so they wouldn't touch the windshield but on one little strip.

I managed to find a set of Rain X Latitudes, and we spent the next 18 hours helping out with perfect visibility. Honestly, I figured we would need to change them out once winter was over, but they rocked in spring time weather too. I've since switched all 3 of my vehicles over to them. Completely happy.
