I have been attempting like crazy to save up for GRlevel3 Radar but being on a college budget that just isn't working out, so I was curious if any of you more knowledged chasers might know of any Radar programs similar in quality but for a low price or even free? I doubt there is such a thing but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

Derek, I suggest you save the $80 to buy Grlevelx. In my opinion, no other radar program out there can touch the quality and user friendliness of Grlevelx software.

GRL3 is by far the best and easiest to use. I've used about 10 other programs and they are either confusing or bloated or both. I like it better than GRL2 as it's got views like Echo Tops and Base and Composite at 248nm all which I use a lot. I really wish they would just combine GRL2 and 3 and make a Plus version for analysis. Far as chasing I think you'll have to pay to get the quicker data.

Here's another good source for free weather:

Weather Underground

Derek,

First off, there is the free option of using the NWS radar. Some feeds can be a bit slow, but hey, it's free! There are several other sites that provide free radar images. Be sure to pay attention to the times on radar images!

Weathertap is another alternative. It isn't nearly the quality of GRLevel3, but it has a lot of good features. It's a browser based interface, not a separate appliction like GRLevel. (there may be an app that you download, but I've only seen it used through a browser). For something like $7 per month, you can get access to radar, along with various other pieces of information. However, with GRLevel3 being a one time $80 fee, the bang for your buck is better saving up and buying the GRLevel software.

Derek,

You can also try www.weathertap.com for their package. It's not too expensive, and you can pay by the month. Most on here like some of their products, and they do host a wealth of other features such as satellite imagery, regional and local radars, etc.
I've kept my Weathertap subscription for several years now and still use it quite often.

However, I do agree that you should target GRLevelX for the ultimate radar solution.

Good luck,
