• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Wow lots of Canon users here, I use a Nikon D300 and a Nikon D70 for stills.

But Olivier is right the lenses makes a big differance.

In my bag is:
Canon XSi
Canon 18-55is
Canon 55-250is
Canon 50 1.8
8gb SDHC + 4gb SDHC x2
Canon S3is (what i used to shoot with before I got the XSi in Feb)

I've actually been surprised by the image quality from both of the zooms, particularly the 18-55is. Not sure if I'll keep the 55-250is, but I'll know that in a few months once I see if it is just taking up space in my bag. I may end up selling both the 18-55is and 55-250is to raise some cash for a better piece of glass more in the focal length I shoot in most, something along the lines of a Sigma 17-70. I'm renting the Canon 10-22 for the last 2 weeks of June and very interested to see how that performs.

Canon 20D, backup is the wife's XTI

Lenses:
Tokina 12-24 f/4
Canon 17-40L f/4
Canon 50mm f/1.4
Canon EFS 60mm f/2.8 Macro
Canon 70-200 f/4 IS L
Canon 18-55mm IS (new kit lens)

In the past I've owned the 300mm f/4 non IS, 200mm f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8L non IS, 100mm f/2, sigma 20mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8... all good lenses, just the process I've gone through figuring out what works best for me. Many of those I bought used and sold for either more or within 10% of the original cost. Lenses are good investments if you buy quality glass.

I use a Canon XTi, typically with the 17-40L. I also have a 70-300 zoom and the 50/1.8. For quicker shots or when travelling light I also have a Canon G9 point-and-shoot.

My film cameras include a Canon Rebel G 35mm, a Minolta Freedom Zoom 35mm point-and-shoot, a Mamiya RB67 Pro S in medium format, and a Graflex Super Graphic in 4x5.

Canon Rebel T1i
Canon EF-S 10-22mm
Canon 70-200mm f-4 L
Canon 18-55mm IS

I bought the 10-22 after last years storm season, so I am patiently waiting for our storm season to start to finally shoot storms with it. Judging from other users photos who have the lens, I doubt I'll be disappointed.

I have a Canon EOS-10D 6mp digital SLR with 17-35, 28-90, and 70-200mm lenses. It's an older model camera but has served me well in the 5 years that I've had it. Check out my youtube and myspace pages to see some of the pics I've taken with it. As for video I have a Sony TRV-900. Arguably one of the best MiniDV camcorders Sony ever produced. I've had it for a good 8 or 9 years now. I'm looking to replace both cameras in the next 1-2 years. Would like to get the 40D or 50D to go along with or replace my 10D. Might keep the 10D to use both cameras and/or use as a spare. I dont know what I'll get to replace my TRV900. I DONT want a hard drive camcorder. I'd rather keep using MiniDV tapes, or a variant. Any suggestions?

The 10-22mm lens is a dream lens for me. I like my 17-35mm wide angle, but the 10-22 has been on my wish list since I first saw some of the pics taken with it.

I agree with Olivier. Its the glass that makes the shot and not the camera. I would rather have a Canon 10D with L glass (or a prime) than a 5D with a kit lens. This is my current setup although I am going to splurge and buy the 5D MKII when I start my job in the fall. I am very happy with my current lens range.....the only thing I may add is a couple of primes within my 70-200 range such as the 135L (which still fits the 1.4x!!).

My gear:

Canon 20D w/ vertical grip
17-40mm f/4L
24-70mm f/2.8L
70-200mm f/2.8L non-IS
300mm f/4L IS
100mm f/2.8 macro
1.4x extender
580ex II flash
Lightning trigger

The 24-70 is currently on its way back to Canon.....apparently lenses don't stay as sharp when you fall on them hiking down a mountain. The vertical grip is also on its way back due to a service recall.

wow, thanks for all the responses:D you've all given me plenty to choose from. it does look like alot of canon users! i would have loved to have had a camera with more exposure and lens options last night. we had a nice little storm come thru with some lightning that mike hollingshead got some great shots of! i'll keep this info and really start narrowing down this fall i think, thanks again!

Mark me down as a happy Canon XTi user as well. I don't have many fancy lenses or anything but the camera has enough advanced features that I can get some pretty good shots.

Nikon D80
Nikkor 12-24mm *Primary storm chasing lens
Nikkor 18-135mm *every-day lens
Off-brand 70-300mm *Don't use this much, want a Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8
