Real names keeps folks honest. As far as privacy issues go, it's a weather forum. I mean, come on now.
After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.
I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.
For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.
From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.
Sincerely, Jeff D.

I thought there was something in the rules about that...that you can't knowingly falsify who you are. I'd have to go back and read the rules again. If it isn't against the rules...it should be.From what I understand, a person doesn't have to use their real name, but they do have to use a real name. I could have signed up as Jason Briggs and it would have been fine.
The user themselved have the burden of whether they wish to or not to participate. This should NOT be a concern for stormtrack. In fact, even if they use a username that is not their real name, and still disseminate prohibited information by their contract, they are still in violation of said contract and ST may have to deal with intrusive legal orders and such to provide IP address and other information. This is AGAIN a reason for ST to use real names versus other situations. I do see some users for various reason that I and others may not think of, to use fake names, but they would be so infrequent. As such, there are at least some members or potential members, assumingly in the minority, who are wary of posting certain information on the forum for fear that it might somehow have professional repercussions. Some of this stems from the fact that some folks that work in places like the media might work under a contract that has a morals or ethics clause. Therefore, for a myriad of reasons, there have been some registered users who have been hesitant to participate on the forums to one degree or another for these aformentioned reasons.

Ill second everyone.. Real names..
