Warning Lights

I have no lights. Only reason I could see to have them would be on the back of a vehicle when pulled over to the side of the road. No reason to have them going while going down the road. It could cost you.

Already got one ordered, complete with "super piss off chasers" mode for those nighttime intercepts.

S.P.O.C. Mode. - Sounds like a Star Trek Light Bar setting.

I am mounting a strobe lightbar under my car this year to look super cool and scare Armadillos off the road.
I will also order me a new badge to go with my lightbar.

OUCH!

My lightbar met it's demise tonight in a hailstorm! I'm sure that will no doubt please some people.

I was just a few miles to your east, just west of Lamesa watching the carnage develop on grl3...
FWIW, my lights were on (amber facing rear) until I decided to depart the area as the hail started spreading my direction. Sorry to hear about your lights. I was wondering how you were doing out there in that mess.
And after reading the 'explosion' thread, Double OUCH! Wow! Time to build your own TIV me thinks!

I've got lights. I think they're essential to warn the public and make yourself visible. They don't give you super powers, people NEED to understand that. With that said, not sure why people get pissed off when they see somebody with lights..

As long as they're used responsibly, I see absolutely nothing wrong with them.

The light in my windshield is only on when there is a Tornado Warning.

I don't see how lights alert the public of a tornado warning. Who is going to know that the light on your windshield means that they are driving into a tornado warned storm?

I got to say, that is funny! Along those same lines, if you are in front of me with the windshield light on, I will not know it.

Now if you want to see Lightbar and Strobe Light Mania, come to the South around Alabama. There is one guy that has four, yep 4, Lightbars on his truck. It is a hoot. I have tried a few times to get a picture of this, but this guy even drives faster than me. (Where is camaro boy? He could catch him)
Then you have the ones that have every orifice filled with strobes. They look like some fantasy light show as they either drive wide open or drive around at 20 miles an hour with bright blinding strobes bouncing off everything.
Everyone to their own. I don't care until I get blinded and can't see to drive by. I just find some of it funny when they go to such extremes.

They are both right... I am not sure how that would warn the 'public' of a tornado warning.

I don't expect people to know that it means "Tornado Warning" but just yesterday while on the funnel NE of lyndon, people saw the chasers going towards the storm and a majority of vehicles turned around and went the other direction once we drove by, that's proof right there it warns people. How would people know we are chasers without having lights? Stickers can't be seen from 360 degrees last time i checked and everybody has hazard lights.

I really don't understand what you guys have against it, there's absolutely nothing wrong with lights (to a degree), it's personal choice, end of story.

on my pickup, I have a set of rear facing led flashers for when parked. They are not the gen 3 lights used by most, as I feel that they are too blinding at night.
I also have a halogen mini bar on top. It is used only in emergencies, such as tree across road, flooding over road, or the occasional accident scene to help direct traffic.

Did you stop the people who turned around and ask them if they did so because of chasers passing by them driving towards the storm? If not then you are making assumptions.

And why do you need people to know that you are a storm chaser? From my personal experiences early on, making it known that you are a chaser is an invite for any yahoo who wants to to follow you around. Unfortunately for you, once they are on your tail following you there isn't much you can do as they have just as much of a right to be there as you do. So have fun with that parade of vehicles behind you and enjoy having to talk to each and every local who keeps ruining your shots while taking pictures or keeping you from enjoying your hobby.

If people want to have lights and stickers so be it, but don't make it sound like by having lights, stickers and everything else that makes you stand out ends up saving lives because it doesn't. If nothing else, it attracts people to a dangerous location because they want to follow the "cool chasers" so they can see something.

I agree Connor, we all know where this is gonna lead anyways. and if the person or people who really wanna know about lights, its easy, just go up to the search box and type "lights" or "lightbars" and there are like 5 or more different threads on the subject, hence how we know how this is all gonna end up. :)
