Since I remember our old Target Map deal back in the day, and was sad to see it go, I wanted to let everyone know about the 2009 Virutal Chase contest that starts this weekend.

Free to play and great prizes offered (I'm not kidding... these include, among others, $500 cash and a subscription to Severe Studios).
You make a pick each evening (by 5z) and can move around until 21z the following day.

See virtualstormchase.com for more details.

[PS, mods, I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the Marketplace thread. It's a free contest and there has been some discussion about similar contests in the past, so I was hoping it was ok here. I was looking to PM a moderator, but could not find a list of them anywhere, and none of my old friends from Oklahoma (Aaron, Melissa, Jeff) appear to be mods anymore. If you want me to move it or are not ok with the post, please let me know and I'll gladly work with you guys. Thanks! :)

Hey all here is an email that I just sent out.. it is a bit more detailed. I know that most of us chase real storms, but what about the ones that you can't get to? This contest will allow you do chase them at least virtually.

Greetings from TheWeatherBoard.com staff.

It's that time of the year again when The National Weather Service storm spotters and storm chasers analyze the weather to look for that "sweet spot" to catch the ever elusive perfect storm. That's right - spring time and Virtual Chase™ season have arrived!

Want to be a storm chaser/forecaster? Then thanks to virtualstormchase.com you can do all of this from the comfort of any computer by joining in the Virtual Chase™ contest. There are some awesome prizes this year and best of all there's no cost to join and participate. We just want you to have fun!

For those new to Virtual Chase™ (VC™), it is a contest that runs from April 20th through June 20th and is made possible exclusively by TheWeatherBoard.com.

Picture this - You are the lead forecaster for a storm chasing organization. You analyze the weather across the U.S. (amazing tools for this analysis are at your fingertips on the VC™ page) and make a decision as to where you think that severe weather may occur on a chase day. You then enter your data into the VC™ form by the deadline stated in the rules and now you are an official chaser/spotter. You are able to move to a new location during a chase (see rules for more info on this). You goal is to wind up where there is a tornado, hail and/or wind damage. Your points will depend on what type of weather you encounter and how close you are to it. The Storm Prediction Center's local storm reports will be updated on our new mapping program in near real-time.

The rules are simple and the contest is exciting and fun. We have a great general FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) set up this year, and staff members are available if you have any other questions whatsoever.

This is the 6th year for VC™ and if you haven't participated in a while you'll notice that we've come a long way in making this the premiere Virtual Chase™ contest on the web.

Come on and check it out. You'll have fun and will be amazed at what you may learn about the weather. And man o' man check out this list of prizes!!!
