The TIV

There have been some nice tornadic and photogenic storms in mid June especially on June 17, Is the TIV still out there? Did they intercept the June 17th or any of the other recent tornadoes on the High Plains?

I know we ran into them on the KS/NE border storm early in the day on the 17th. But I don't know if they headed west for the later show afterwards.

Looking at www.tornadovideos.net, the Timmermobile intercepted the Aurora storm on the 17th with some pretty cool footage. They also appear to be doing some interesting (and successful) stuff with R/C planes dropping parachute probes. Not a bad year for those guys.

I came across TIV2 several times on June 14 during the Ulysses/Sublette, KS storm, and again on June 15 during the Kinsley, KS storm. Here are a couple of shots from the June 14 encounter:

Not sure if they were out on the Aurora storm(6/17) but I did see them on the 6/18 bust and then again on the 21st....so Im sure they were somewhere out there on the 17th.

The picture I posted of the TIV was on 6/17 in far SE Nebraska NE Kansas, I gave up my chase less than a hour later and headed for Wood River. They would have really had to been hauling to make it there in time.

I was following the TIV for a few miles just west of Greensburg on June 15th and I can testify that the TIV can really make good time. I won't give specifics as to how much we were going over the speed limit but I was struggling to keep up. Really didn't think the TIV had that much of an engine under the hood/armor/tank skin/whatever.

I think Caseys should sponser the TIV next year since Shawn Casey owns it.I know I would need a sponser for how much diesel that think burns.Paint it red and make it look like a giant red nascar tank.Maybe hand out free Casey's donuts at the chaser convergence before the show. Wikipedia say's it's 6.7 cummings 625 HP,propane and water injection top speed over 100 mph.

I heard on facebook that Sean caught a lucky break. Supposed he didn't have many. . .if any break downs of his TIVs until about 50 miles out from getting back home, and was still able to make it home. He lost a rear tire and his differentials. Now that's lucky. It's better to break down when you're all done with your chase season than to break down during the major events, as he well knows.
