Synoptic Analysis of Tri-State Tornado?

I know the data stinks, but has anyone attempted to do an analysis of the great Tri-State Tornado of 1925? From the map on Wikipedia, it looks like the supercell followed the track of the surface low.

How would the supercell have formed behind the low, and then caught up with it?
