• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

....or is there something wrong with the atmosphere in NE Missouri?

Nathan, I think your talking about the shear markers, but I see something wrong with your radar display. Compare it to Danny's, and the colors inside the yellow reflectivity don't even look the same. This is just a quick fix to a problem with your graphics card.

Of course, you need to open up Grlevel3
Click on FILE, and when the menu opens, click on device settings.
Put a check mark in "force 16 bit smoothing".
This should fix the weird color display in your radar image.

EDIT: You may have to close Grlevel3 and restart it again for the fix to take affect. I'm not real sure.

I'm wondering if everyone is talking about the same color differences between Nathan's and Danny's displays. It looks like Nathan's is set to display a 'BR 248' which I believe is a custom display. I can't tell what Danny's is set for. Either way, thanks for the comment about the force 16 bit smoothing. I just updated mine for the correction.

Also notice that the color tables are different. Still probably a video card issue. You might want to take this over to the GRLevel3 forums for Mike to look at.

I was simply pointing out the multitude of Meso markers that were there. I knew they were bogus, but didn't know if anyone had seen something like that before.

Thanks for the idea on the 16 bit smoothing, that made things a lot better on the radar!

To clarify: the meso markers automatically come from the NEXRAD site (NWS) -- GRLevel3 is just displaying what is being distributed from the radar.

The NWS algorithm goes bonkers occasionally due to dealiasing errors, etc. In GR3, select View->NMD Filter Settings... and make sure that "NMD has Valid Cell ID" is checked. That will eliminate many of the bogus NMD icons. Play around with the other filter settings to get rid of the rest of the bogus icons.

I was set for BR248 as well. :D I use a different radar display than most. Downloaded different color tables.

Was that the leftovers of hurricane Ike? If so, does this seem to happen a lot when a tropical storm moves that far inland? Up here on the tundra I really don't follow hurricanes--the only storms we seem to get lately involve shelf clouds.
