StormTrack Slow?

without the "new posts" function I can't use the forum. Now days I just show up to see if the feature is enabled again and then move on to something else :(

I agree, the "new posts" function is the worst thing to do away with. I still come to ST, but I'm not coming as often as I use to. I just don't like to randomly browse around, I like the "new posts" function so I can see topics and replies that are actually new since my last visit.

I think taking away the "new posts" function is a disservice to this forum.

The delay change between enabled and disabled function days is negligible.
I would much prefer to be able to use those functions and have a few seconds delay than to see this site go without them.

I don't like it...but I work around it. All I do is go to the main forum page, and just to a right click-->open new tab for every section and I can see every new post that the "New Post" featured showed. It's cumbersome...but I DEAL WITH IT.

Tim is probably to busy to mess with the site right now. After all his house was almost destroyed by a tornado and his neighbors houses were damaged/destroyed which got to him. He is going through a difficult time and we need patience right now. I am sure Tim will fix the problem soon.

The search feature is nice to have but I can do with out the new post feature. I used it every day untill it was removed but if a topic has a new post it will be shown as blue so I can still see what is new. The forums have a lit up paper clip board next to them if there is a new post in that section. So I still find it easy to use but that's just me.

lol I honestly never even noticed the new post function until this thread. So thanks to this thread now I know what I'm missing. Damn it!

OK, here's the deal. We're going to go ahead and upgrade the server this week. It's not only storm season we need to get through but hurricane season too.

However to do this work I need several hours of rock-solid Internet, and I'm not sure about risking it given the outages we've had here (our DSL is working but we still do not have voice!) Also we need a full day for the DNS listings to switch over... there's going to be a day where people land on the old site and others land on the new site, so will need to be scheduled during a lull in the storm activity. Late in the week is most likely for this.

I know we have a chase event tomorrow and Wednesday but try to hang in there... we'll get this fixed.

Respect to Tim...hope it all works out for him.

Can we have the 'New Posts' function returned please. I'm so busy with work I cannot remember what is ahead of me let alone what threads I have responded to. Surely a moderating tech can sort this out. It's not rocket science...it doesn't need tim.

We'll reactivate those features Thursday. With another potential high risk day tomorrow we can't turn back on all those features yet.

Tim

I planned on upgrading the board today but 10 days after the tornado AT&T has still not properly fixed our landline and DSL, which are barely working. So I'm not going to do any intensive work or site upgrades until this is fixed. However they have a technician scheduled to be out here today, so we'll see what happens.

The search engine is back up since we're in a lull. Believe me I dislike having had to deactivate it but I didn't want to take any chances on the forum grinding to a halt during an outbreak.

Our Internet is stable for the first time since May 10, so I may proceed with our server upgrade this weekend.
