Storms of 2008?

I too am willing to contribute video. I have some of the dates others have mentioned, but my footage isn't as good. I am will to contribute the two following events.

May 10 Picher, OK
January 7 Monett, MO

Chapter producers PM me if interested in using anything from these days. FYI the Monett video I have is only about a minute long (formed close to us with not much time to get out of the way). Picher video is about 3 minutes long since the storm was dropping south and moving so fast.

I am listing the big severe weather days incase there is a few you guys have missed. I know you can't use them all but here is the list anyways.

Who's handling the money side of this? Who handled it last year? What were the results? Who was the money donated to? Who's name was it donated under?

Since the subject of giving away chase video has been discussed regularly here lately, I feel these questions are important.

COCAMS handled the money for the 07 project. We will be having a meeting at the end of this month to close out the 2007 funds. Totals to be made public at the end of this month.

Donations have been made to the American Red Cross & Greensburg Greentown. More will be donated to Greensburg Greentown the first of next month. Also, since COCAMS helped underwrite and take care of
online order fulfillments for the entire 07 project a small percentage of each sale was given to the COCAMS not-for-profit org.

As far as this years project. I am not sure who is going to handle finances. I would like to have someone who has accounting experience to handle it but that's not really a requirement, simply a perk. If you know how to balance a check book and are trust worthy you can take on as treasurer.
If no one steps foreword, well…. We shall see. It will be done and posted publicly though during or at close out of the project.

Hope that answers your question Steve. Feel free to take that part on if you are interested.

I have some decent footage to donate including:

May 23, Quinter KS --- Both Quinter area tornadoes including a nice close-up of one crossing I-70

May 22 Collyer, KS---- Massive and rapidly rotating collar cloud

May 25 Bison, KS --- unexpected landspout

May 29 Beloit, KS --- amazing structure shot of tornadic storm

I can also track down some nice amateur footage as I did for my Eastern Fury and last year's June 24 Manitoba tornado on SO2007.

I've never been happy with my video stuff, but it's getting better. This year I may have a few things to contribute:

May 23: Dighton, KS--rapidly rotating wall cloud; brief, nearby spin-up blowing apart an outbuilding. Also, a couple small tornadoes that may have been satellites of a larger tornado--not sure exactly where we were at the time, but I can probably figure that out by checking with the other guys in our foursome; could have been the Quinter storm.

May 25: Fairbank/Hazleton, IA--EF3 wedge which formed after the Parkersburg tornado. Contrast was poor, but you can make out the tornado beginning to emerge toward the middle of the clip.

I also have some good structure footage taken south of Oberlin, KS, on May 22, and in Nebraska on May 24.

Mickey: Thanks for the info, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
I'll shoot you a PM re treasurer for the project.

Guys, I might also not be well known, but I am a media producer and would enjoy the opportunity to assist with this project. At Denver last year, I met a few of you and purchased/viewed the exceptional storms of 2007...

You guys have too good of a project to let it slide away...

FYI, I shoot and edit in HD on FCpro and live in the mac world.

I am happy to announce that Sheila Ward is now the lead editor for the Storm of 2008. Sheila is a computer programmer by trade and has extensive video editing experience with both PC and Mac . So please welcome Sheila to the project! Thank you very much Sheila.

This means that the project is now officially on track and ready to start accepting chapter producers. As of right now a preliminary list of chapters are as followed. If you do not see a date on this list that is worthy to be o the list please let Tony know.

We are still looking for the following to join the teams.

Production Team –

(This one may be taken now)
· Audio Editor – Normalizes individual chapter’s audio files.
NOTE: in 07 we took a professional approach to the audio editing.
This required us to use separate files such as the video audio, voice overs, and music. Once these files were gathered they would be compiled in a manner (normalized) that would not allow one audio track’s db level to become overbearing compared to the other two at any point in the final production.

  • Responsible for making sure that each chapter producer sends in the three separate audio files to you.

  • Responsible for normalizing audio files from each chapter and segment and compiling the final normalized audio into one file for the Lead Editor.

· Chapter Editors / Producers – Individual Chapter Editors.

  • Responsible for gather video for your chapter.
  • Editing that video for your chapter
  • Separating the three audio files from your final project.
  • Sending your final rendered files (Video and 3 - Audio files) to the Lead Editor.

Administrative Team

(Possibly taken as well but still up for grabs)
· Accounting / Treasurer– Responsible for the cash flow, and reporting of funds

· Order Fulfillment – Shipping… Responsible for shipping orders out in a timely manner.

· Website Design / Administrator – Responsible for creation and up keep of the website.

· Marketing and Research – Responsible for all marketing matters.

· Sales – Simple, finding business outside the online world.

I would really like to push those of you who have marketing experience or a willingness to take a stab at it to come forward. A good marketing team could take this to the next level.

Thanks,

Mick

I have some footage from March 2 that might be worth a small chapter as it's very good quality video. I certainly wouldn't be offended if the editors aren't interested, though. ;) A complete list of dates we have good tornado footage from:

March 2 (Canton, OK)
May 2 (Earle, AR)
May 22 (Grainfield to Hoxie to Dresden, KS)
May 23 (Quinter #1 as it touches down and Quinter #2 as it ropes out)

I can easily handle order fulfillment as it dovetails nicely with some of the work I'm doing with Reed. Speaking of Reed, I've been having a hard time getting ahold of him lately, but as far as I know he's still interested in helping out with the marketing aspect of So2008. However, since work on his dissertation is gobbling up most of his time right now, I need to check with him to make sure he's still able to contribute.

We might consider throwing in a chapter for the June 7th Chicago area wedge-fest. I'd probably be one of the most logical candidates for a chapter producer on this one, but I've got a packed semester this fall so I can't in good conscience take it over. Perhaps one of the other couple who chased this one would be interested?

Also, if you are interested in being a chapter editor/producer or a contributor, I encourage everyone to join the discussion board I set up for Storms of 2008.

http://forums.tornadotony.com/

Once chapters are finalized, I will start a discussion thread for your chapter. Please let me know. So far, we have chapter editors for February 5th and May 22nd.

I see that basically the entire Administrative branch lacks commitment at this time. I've been in contact with (potential) chapter producers about sending in video. Just wanting to know when the deadline is for either (a) every position in the new "structure" to be filled and the project is a go or (b) not enough positions in the new structure have been filled and it's over. This project seems like it's being thrown together last-minute because of a lack of interest...the clock ticking down to Aug 30 with a race between enough volunteers being recruited or the project ending just seems like a huge black mark on the whole deal.

It only took a handful of people (outside of individual chapter producers) to handle this gig the past four turns...seems like we have enough volunteers already who could collectively fill the remaining "spots" designated by the new proposed structure, based on their qualifications. My question is, are we gonna run this thing until the last second looking to fill each individual title, or are the volunteers currently committed (who collectively have enough experience/manpower to handle it all) gonna step up and make it happen?

One man stepped up and saved this entire deal last year. I'd think the half dozen or so who have already stepped up could handle it this time around if we don't fill all allotted positions (per the new proposed structure) by Aug 30. Are the people already committed ready to take this on should no more volunteers come forth before Aug 30, or are we playing a waiting game to see if the remaining positions are filled? There's a lot of video contributors with a lot of video waiting for this answer (as well as a list of CONFIRMED chapter producers).

Dear Mr. Adams,

To make this answer S & S I will say that the project has enough people to handle it through it's one year duration and is now officially going to happen. However, if we have others to cover the open positions it will make it that much easier on everyone involved. We all have lives outside of this project and there is no need to take a big dip into that. This structure simply makes it easier on everyone involved. If no one steps up to take the other positions, the project will still carry on and those tasks will be absorbed by those of us already committed.

First things first though we need more volunteers for chapter producers.
So if you want to produce a chapter(s) please let Tony know asap. If you have questions about being a chapter producer please feel free to ask here or contact me privately.
