Server load issues

Now that spring is here it seems we've been having more server issues and have had to reboot the server more frequently. We appear to have been down from about 10 pm last night to 11 am CDT this morning.

Now that the server is back up I've taken the step of denying Target Area access to guests, as well as access to Miscellaneous threads (archive, etc). The access log indicates that heavy access to Target Area by guests has probably contributed to the problem. When I made the change 20 minutes ago there were 70 members logged in and 290 guests going through threads, much of it in Target Area. I've also turned off the message search ability to preserve CPU drain.

I'm sure this won't be popular with guests but this seems to be necessary to keep the board running for everyone else.

FYI, it appears that several people are complaining on wx-chase about being members but having their access denied. Linda Kitchens, Mike Hollingshead, William Kucharski, among others.

I commented on the apparent need for a new host, not about having my access denied.

Out of all the things you've done, I think turning off "Search" will be the most significant help. It is also the easiest functionality to work around.

Simply add:
site:www.stormtrack.org/forum/
to your search term to use Google to search the ST Forums.

So your search would look like:
term1 term2 "search phrase 1" site:www.stormtrack.org/forum

having their access denied. Linda Kitchens, Mike Hollingshead, William Kucharski, among others.

I checked and Mike Hollingshead shows up as a member. He also logged in today and posted to the board.

As far as the others, I searched and don't see any accounts for them. I don't recall them being active on the board, either.

We are accepting memberships again. Applicants will send an email and moderators will sort through them and approve them as time permits.
