Scientific Data from amateurs.

With an uprise of amateurs such as myself wanting to gather information such as wind and pressure, is there a centralized place to send such data?
If not, where should we try to send it? I plan on attempting to collect data with an RM Young anemometer and a Vasaila Temp/Pressure probe (2 different ones). Understanding I have no one to send such data to, would it be unrealistic to try and collect such data from others?

If you have a measured wind speed that meets severe criteria (58 mph or more), submit a storm report to the NWS office for that area and make sure to say it was measured. If your station is fixed, it is always helpful to tie it into something like Weather Underground so others can see your data. But other than that, there really isn't a central place to send this data. There are a ton of people with personal weather stations and folks like NWS offices can't really quality control all that data to make it useful.

As a side note, NWS does want folks to report precipitation (rail, hail, snow) thru the CoCoRaHS program.

The NOAA database for that is called MADIS (NCEP Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) and surface data are available at NOAA MADIS Surface Observations). One automated way to get your data into MADIS is CWOP ... Citizen Weather Observer Program ). There are many more feeds into MADIS but, CWOP (if you can figure out how to connect your station to it) is open to all.

MADIS does include QC algorithms.
