Pivotal Weather?

Can anyone share any information about Pivotal Weather? I'm rapidly becoming hooked on their model graphics and the overall feel of their site, and I find myself using twisterdata.com and COD far less often.

Is Pivotal Weather associated with AccuWeather? It appears that they're based in Norman, but I'm curious about who is behind it.

Winston - glad you're enjoying the site! It is currently a side project for a few friends and I (I certainly can't take credit for all the work we've put into it collectively, by a long shot), and not associated with any larger entity.

When we initially launched the site as OWxData early last year, I started the following thread to discuss the site and take requests, suggestions, etc.:

http://stormtrack.org/community/threads/new-model-site-owxdata-com.28390/

Unfortunately, I don't think I can edit the title now! Perhaps the mods can roll this thread into it and also edit the title to "Pivotal Weather?"

If you have any suggestions or requests, feel free to let us know. We're currently working on some new additions behind the scenes, some of which will certainly appear by chase season.

Thanks, Brett, for your quick reply, and sorry that I missed your previous thread about your site. I'm really impressed with your efforts here, and judging from the number of people who are putting your maps on their pages and feeds, I'm obviously not alone. You and your colleagues have done an excellent job, and I look forward to using Pivotal Weather during the upcoming chase season.

Do you have any plans to add city names or airport codes to your maps? That's one of the features that I enjoy on COD's graphics. (Or maybe I've simply overlooked it as an option?)

Thanks again for the kind words!

Regarding the city/METAR request: that's an interesting idea that could probably be accomplished with a transparent overlay that can be toggled. We will add it to our growing list of requests!

Hey @Brett I love the site, so much so I gave up my subscription to a few others (HazWx and WeatherBell). The graphics are cool (I admit I still bounce back and forth between it and COD but that's a color vision thing for me), and I like the sounding package. Keep up the great work!

I also really like your model graphics and use Cod and twisterdata farrr less often.. will there ever be a fee required to use the site?

Brett, I too love the site... and the business model! I look forward to new models features and products in the future!

Glad to hear! We rely on ad revenue to support the site, rather than subscription fees, and we have no plans to change that in the foreseeable future.
Thanks for doing this! This is now my "goto" free site. Much cleaner and simpler than Twisterdata, etc.

How are you allowed to post the Euro model outputs though? I thought they made that prohibitively expensive.

Thanks!

John

Glad you like it, John! As Rob mentioned above, we currently have a limited selection of ECMWF data that's freely available. It's good enough for determining the evolution of a trough/storm system in the medium range, which is usually more than half the battle at lead times when predictability isn't that great!

I'm a PW addict. I'd like to suggest if possible an app to consolidate data more easily, or a more mobile friendly site option. I love having so much info available, but if i only have my phone available at the moment it's clunky to navigate. Otherwise I love it. Thank you for such an incredible aggregation of info that I easier to navigate than sites like TD.

I noticed the site the makes all free ECMWF data that is made public available. I really like the 850 temp and the 500 height anomalies! I haven't see those anywhere else for the public domain ECMWF data suite. And being able to drag over a point to get a wx parameter value? So much more convenient!
