Nice new skin

I really dislike the default skin in vB4. When it comes to contrast and drawing the eye to the right places, it falls flat on its face. They pushed the web 2.0 thing a little too hard and forgot you have to read this thing for extended periods. To add insult to injury, their styling system has been a mess and I don't know if they've even fixed that yet. This is symptomatic of a company that's lost its creative personnel, namely original vB designers like Kier Darby.

The thing is, on the old vB3 board, there could have been skins. They're really easy to make. On the new one, I don't know. I saw a guy who does this for a living throw up his hands at vB4.

From the little bit I've gotten to use the new interface, I definitely like the new look and features. I did notice that clicking the "Find all posts by..." for users does not bring up any hits. Maybe this functionality was broken in the upgrade, or its still being worked on? Some of the advanced search functionality was not working last night either, although I know there was a lot of maintenance happening then. How about the "thanks" feature? Is that gone?

I'm going to second that concern. I've been doing some searches since the upgrade and the feature is not meeting my expectations. It doesn't seem to be able to find any posts that are more than a week or two old, and I know I'm not searching for words and topics that have only been discussed in that time. Without a correctly working search feature, the forum runs the risk of losing its history and getting a ton of "new" threads about topics that have already been well discussed.

This is a problem. Searching for any keyword, it will not be found, unless the thread that it is in has been updated since the upgrade to the new forum version. For example, search for Flagstaff. It should bring up, at least, the thread about the October tornadoes. It does not.

The search just seems to need to have the time clock moved back. I can search for various terms, but it is very limited at the moment. Search options are rather numerous now, and figuring out the various settings for the best results is key.

Glad to see you all upgraded to vb4! Its a pretty good software and you can do quite a bit with it. You all should just get yourselves a better theme than the ugly old plain jane default one :p

The search function badly needs to be improved. I tried to find some of my older posts and threads started by clicking on the various links in my user CP only to find that there were no search results for started threads and my previous posts only went back to January 4. Thus unless I specifically remember which threads I started or which posts I made, those past ones are lost unless I can search through the forum manually to find them. That's something I'd prefer to not have to do.

It would appear that this can be fixed by possibly moving the time clock setting back on the search feature, but that's something that Tim will have to do.

I haven't seen any response to Skip's question about the "thanks" feature. It does appear to be gone, and I thought it was a nice feature. Was it a conscious decisioin to delete it, or was it something that got lost in the switchover to the new format?

I would guess Tim is ironing out the bugs and that mod will be re-enabled. It is available on vB4.

This might just be an isssue of Tim not having time to fix things, but we're still operating with major broken features. The search is still crippled. The workaround is to use "site:www.stormtrack.org/forum/" and your search string in Google. It would be really nice to have the search feature back on the boards though. I'm not sure if there is anything on vB4, including this new skin, for which it was worth breaking the search functionality, thanks feature, and polling options. Perhaps we can downgrade back to vB3?

Here is my question, and I'm going to be blunt...If the new features aren't fixed because Tim is too busy, then why in the hell was the new look implemented to begin with. I mean, it's all fine and dandy to upgrade something, but by all means don't leave features out months after you've upgraded. It's pretty obvious that this board isn't being taken care of like it should. Also, I'm not poking at Tim. I know he's busy, but at least give us some feedback on what's going to be implemented and when.

I'm afraid I must agree. I must also question why, if Tim is too busy to address these issues, someone else isn't appointed to be able to do it.

Yeah, that's another valid question that should be answered.

EDIT: Just an opinion here, but sometimes I think Tim interacts with the board on occasion just because he has to. Nowadays ST seems to be on the bottom of his list of priorities. Again, this is just my opinion.
