Hello everybody! My name's Mark! I've been lurking on here for a couple years now, but I feel ready to dip my toes in a bit. I'm 29 years old and from the metro-Detroit area. I've been interested in severe weather since I was a kid. We had a pretty nasty storm come through when I was in elementary school, and it pretty well traumatized me. At some point I decided to learn as much as I could about severe weather to get over my fear, and I became borderline obsessive. I always wanted to go storm chasing, but had parents who knew better than to get directions to the nearest tornado from a 13 year old. Eventually grew up (at least in the eyes of the law) and I've been storm chasing casually for 3-4 years now.

I mainly backyard chase, the grid network in northern Indiana and Ohio is nice, and I've got interstates all the way home. If budget and PTO allows, I've been known to head over to the Mississippi Valley and the plains. I did a tour with College of DuPage a while back - I can't say enough about that program, it was wonderful. It's not a tour, it's a class, a huge learning opportunity. That said, it was certainly nice having someone else handling the logistics of a chase for once.

I'm a big back country nerd, love hiking and camping. I'm currently budgeting for a overlanding/chasing/full time residence van, probably a recent model Sprinter with 4WD. The dream is to live out of that full time. I'm full time remote, and can't remember the last time I needed something mailed to me. Way back in the day I served in an AmeriCorps funded Conservation Corp and spent an entire year either tent camping our living out of my Camry. I figure if I can live out of a tent and a Camry I can live out of a van, haha.

It's been so long since I've been here, I thought I ought to reintroduce myself. I'm Steve Holmes, as in Sherlock. Communication in one medium or another has been my business going on 50 years. Former and possibly future filmmaker (documentary and low-budget), photographer, former radio and TV reporter and writer. (I'm working on a book about the 2011 Joplin tornado and the first decade of the aftermath. Joplin's my hometown, and my family was at Ground Zero. They got out, but with scars.)

I guess I'd be called a gentleman chaser. If a threat's within a hundred miles or so, I might check it out. I love it when a storm comes through at bedtime. I love the sound and light show, I but don't mention that much around Joplin.

I'll be asking questions from time to time, and hope to give more than I get.

I've technically joined here a few months ago, but I haven't really interacted with anyone on here until now, so might as well introduce myself...

Hello everyone! My name is Steven! Severe weather and tornadoes have been a lifelong obsession of mine, and because my mom had been into storm chasing long before I was even a thought, I got into this whole gig early. Though I have been hitching along for local outings my whole life, and I saw my first tornado back in 2013 when I was 7, I consider my official start to be 2018 when I picked up my interest in photography, which gave me a proper motivation to get out there.

I'm born and raised in the Denver Metro, and spend my storm seasons mainly in the high plains of Colorado and the surrounding states, though I have been progressively expanding territory too, having traveled as far as the Mississippi River to within 150 miles of both the Mexican and Canadian borders last year.

I'm currently halfway through my second year of school at MSU Denver for my meteorology degree. My current longer term plans after I graduate is to help forecast for either NWS Boulder or Goodland, and to get involved in field research for mesoscale and microscale level meteorological severe weather events too. A key interest in particular for me is landspouts. Because I live in the heart of the DVZ, they love to kick up in extremely unusual places, and breaking down the several "tells" that can lead to landspout formation has been something I've been trying to crack for a few years now. I am also interested in the more historical side of tornado as well, having spent hours of my free time logging tornado statistics into maps and charts for the fun of it, as well as studying historical tornado outbreaks and the experiences of notable storm chases throughout its history.

And yeah! That's pretty much all the important stuff there. I'm hoping to become a lot more involved here, especially for severe weather forecasts! Hope to see some of y'all at NSCS and under the meso come March!

Hey. Some of ya'll might already know me but those who don't, here goes. My name is Evan Hawkins of Eaton Ohio, I was born in September. The first time that I've ever seen a tornado I was about 5 or 6 years old, I was in the doctors for a shot for school and they made us take cover because of a tornado in the area, it surprised me (even though it was in a field give or take a mile away) that from where I was, I was able to watch the tornado form and touch down. Ever since then, I have been interested in weather and chasing, I have never been on the website here so this is all so new to me, at least until I started actually posting and talking.

I am currently 16 years old (17 on the 4th of Sept.) and don't have anyone or anything really reliable to chase with yet, I am open to pointers on how to upgrade my chase rig over the years and all that without ruining a nice truck too much. I currently have a 2012 dodge dually and that's about all I have to my name. If you have any pointers or questions for me or about my chase setup/about me you can pm me or email me at the following email: [email protected]

Please consider that I am a new chaser and my not 100% know what I'm doing, as of right now all I have is a truck, computer/GPS, and a cheaper CB radio.
