new digital camera

Alright I've had it with cheap kodak digital cameras lol..They drain the battery in 25 minutes and they dont have great quality..but they were cheap!. So Now I'm asking for suggestions on a new digital video camera not a still camera. I am looking at the Sony Digital 8 for $299 at best buy. But i wanna get an idea what everyone else uses.

I've had 3 Canons, and like them, but I believe some other brands reproduce the colors a tad better. The Canons have (had?) superior stabilization (Is that what it's called? I forget anymore...) though, which I think is very important when filming storms.
