I'm sure this has been on here, but I searched with no results. I need the lowdown on this pic thats been all over the internet. I know the oil derrick is not legit.
The derrick has been digitally added. I know the tornado lightning photo was from Lake Okachobee in the early 90's, I have it hanging in my former room (now the guest room) in my parents house. I don't know where the oil derrick is from but its definitely a photoshop.
I've seen that tornado picture before, but apparently a lot of people have tried to take credit for it. The oil derrick has been obviously photoshopped in.
I've always marveled at the tornado / waterspout portion of this
photo. I think it's cool as heck.
As best as I know...the tornado pic was taken in Florida....near Lake Okeebogee (spelling ??) at least 10 plus years ago. As far as I am concerned...it shows what I term a "waternado"...aka a full-on tornado that has moved over a body of water.
This photo has appeared in many, many different places over the years. This is the first time that I personally have seen the tornado shot married with the oil derrick.
As many of us who have subscribed to Storm Track for some time have witnessed...several great storm / tornadic photos have been pirated and tampered with over the years via the internet. Just ask our good friend / storm photographer extraordinaire Mike Hollingshead about that.
I have had the oil rig photo with the waterspout in it emailed to me 3 times from different sources and different credits........its kinda getting to be like the (travelling nome commercial.)...."I shot this photo last night in.....sw Oklahoma...or Missouri......Mexico city....I bet the fake goes around the world this week..............lol
